Isla Castillon has spent four months undercover as a pastry chef at Lumos, an exclusive Chicago restaurant. Her employer, the Juniper Guild, wants Tomasz Nowak dead — the Polish arms dealer who ordered the murder of legendary assassin Carl Donnelly.
On Nowak’s birthday, Isla bakes his favorite childhood dessert: a karpatka laced with lethal poison, topped with chocolate lettering that reads Sto lat!.
A busy dinner service and a kitchen accident cause server Abigail to deliver the poisoned pastry to the wrong table. This is the moment Love Antidote flips sideways.
The lone diner at table seven — whom the staff mistakes for a Michelin inspector — is actually Mateo Rocha, a rival contract killer also tracking Nowak. The toxin hits hard, and Mateo staggers to his Tesla in the parking garage.
