When She’s Stuffed Summary: A Cozy Risdaverse Holiday Short
TL;DR: A Holiday Feast on an Alien Estate
On the colony planet Risda III, a human cook named Pamela plans something familiar in a place far from home: a Thanksgiving dinner.
When She’s Stuffed: A Risdaverse Holiday Short by Ruby Dixon follows a single day on the va’Rin estate, where rescued human women live and work among aliens.
Standing nearby is Toghar, a seven-foot Mesakkah security guard who has spent five years keeping a quiet crush to himself.
The novella moves between the kitchen, the dinner table, and the nervous space between two people who both assume their feelings are one-sided.
Premise: Pamela, a 40-year-old former slave from Kansas, cooks a Thanksgiving feast for the estate where she works. Toghar, the estate’s Mesakkah guard, decides this is the day he finally asks to court her.
What happens: He arrives early to help, is baffled by turkey stuffing and wishbones, and eventually confesses. Pamela reveals she cooked a separate vegetarian feast just for him and the guards.
Where it lands: The two spend the night together, share a quiet morning goodbye, and Lord va’Rin approves of the match. The whole story covers one day plus an epilogue.
Core themes: gratitude, belonging, caretaking through food, and cultural misunderstanding played for humor.

When She’s Stuffed Summary: The Full Story
Spoiler warning: the following section describes the plot, including the ending.
Pamela lives and works on the estate of Lord and Lady va’Rin on Risda III. She was kidnapped from Kansas into galactic slavery before Lord va’Rin rescued her and gave her a home.
Now she is the estate’s head cook, and she misses the holidays she grew up with. She decides to prepare a full Thanksgiving dinner for the household.
Toghar is a seven-foot-tall, blue-skinned, horn-bearing Mesakkah guard on the same estate. He is a vegetarian, and he has been in love with Pamela for five years without saying a word.
He arrives at the kitchen early, planning to confess. Instead he ends up helping, and the work quickly turns strange for him.
Pamela roasts a large bird, reaches inside to remove the giblets, and stuffs the carcass. Toghar finds the process both fascinating and queasy, since he eats no meat at all.
He peels tahaari roots and helps with pies while trying to work up his nerve. The kitchen fills with heat, noise, and the smell of a holiday he has never celebrated.
Pamela explains what Thanksgiving means to her: a meal where everyone eats until they are full, a family sitting together, and each person naming what they are thankful for. Toghar listens and keeps his own gratitude to himself.
When the food is ready, Pamela serves the va’Rin family and their children. The children break the turkey wishbone, another ritual Toghar does not understand.
After the family finishes, Pamela leads Toghar to a second spread of food. It is entirely meat-free — Mesakkah dishes she prepared specifically for him and the estate guards.
Toghar is overwhelmed that she thought of him while she was missing home. He kisses her.
What follows is an intimate scene in the kitchen. Toghar draws on what he learned from a translated human romance novel, Outlander, and Pamela responds in kind.
The two make love in the kitchen and later move to Pamela’s bedroom, where they spend the night together. Pamela, in When She’s Stuffed, had expected the day to be about cooking for others rather than about herself.
The next morning, Toghar and Pamela share a warm, affectionate goodbye before he leaves for duty. He asks to court her. She tells him she thought he would never ask.
Pamela goes back to clean the kitchen and finds that the guards have eaten every bit of her vegetarian feast. Lord va’Rin stops by, notices that Toghar finally spoke up, and gives his approval.
Pamela ends the day elated, already thinking about what she will cook next. Ruby Dixon closes the novella with the couple settled into a new understanding rather than a dramatic conflict.
