The Throne of Broken Gods Summary: The Full Plot
SPOILER WARNING: This section recounts the complete story, including the ending.
The story opens weeks after the fall of Silver City. Samkiel, once known as Liam, counts the days since Dianna disappeared. Dianna has abandoned her remaining humanity and accepted the scales and fire of her Ig’Morruthen body.
Dianna forces the witch Camilla to perform the Ritual of Havlousin. The ritual scatters her sister Gabby’s ashes at a beach Gabby loved. The act leaves Dianna emotionally empty and more focused on violence.
Samkiel rules from the Guild in Boel. He imposes a global curfew and lockdown to locate Dianna. The Council of Hadrameil pushes back against his decisions, and even his elite guard, The Hand, questions his judgment.
Samkiel finds Dianna at a shipping dock. Kaden’s forces are moving large quantities of iron there. Their reunion turns violent when Dianna impales Samkiel to distract him while she chases an informant named Santiago.
Dianna slaughters several groups connected to Kaden. She kills a coven of banshees and a pack of werewolves. She learns that Kaden is planning a significant event for the upcoming equinox.
Samkiel interrogates the giant Porphyrion and learns the truth about Yejedin. It is a prison dimension built by his father, Unir, to contain ancient beings. Kaden was one of Unir’s former generals.
Dianna enters Yejedin to rescue Neverra, the wife of Samkiel’s second-in-command Logan. She destroys Kaden’s hidden factory where god-killing weapons were being made from iron and her own blood. She kills Tobias, the King of the Dead.
Kaden returns with a legion of Irvikuva. Dianna barely escapes and burns out her power. Samkiel carries her to Rashearim, where he has rebuilt a palace for her.
On Rashearim, Dianna and Samkiel slowly rebuild their connection.
They acknowledge their romantic feelings for each other. A visit to the Higher One exposes the deepest secret: Kaden is Samkiel’s half-brother.
The Higher One also reveals that Dianna is Samkiel’s amata. She is his prophesied equal, hidden by the celestial Azrael, who is her biological father.
During the equinox, Kaden launches his plan. Members of the Council and The Hand betray Samkiel under the influence of dream eaters. Kaden uses a god-killing spear to drain Samkiel’s power and opens the gates between realms.
The war goddess Nismera returns. Samkiel is tortured and dies from his wounds. Dianna confesses her love, which activates the Mark of Dhihsin and resurrects him.
Dianna and Samkiel escape to the Floating City of Jade. The resurrection costs Dianna greatly. The realms now stand open to ancient horrors.
