The Company, known as Starhome Exploration Group, controls every division of life. Contractors called atiers serve elite clients under a strict Code of Client Service.
Isthmus Isako, known as Quickblade, is one of the most respected atiers. She is finishing dismissal notices for her client Forest Greves, Director of Astrocom. Greves has lost a three-year war with rival division SatOps and faces demotion.
Instead of accepting demotion, Greves commits ritual suicide by walking into the Vastness to die. Isako expects to become a ronin, a contractor without a contract.
She learns Greves transferred her contract to Savannah Minto, the Director of SatOps who defeated him.
Minto blackmails Isako into one final assignment. Isako must find evidence that Sandbar Uchi, Director of SoCon GasPro and a Board nominee, is mentally unstable or corrupt.
