Dinios Kol and his superior, Immunis Ana Dolabra, travel to the canton of Sapirdad. Their task is to solve the murder of Zansay Burav. The crime has pushed two powerful families to the brink of conflict. The suspect, Castus Armenta, was caught fleeing the scene.
Ana’s investigation reveals a deeper truth. Zansay and Castus were secret lovers. More importantly, they were both infected with the guiding web. This is a neuro-fungus originally used to control harvesting cats. The killer used it to condition Castus to commit the murder.
The case becomes more complex as Din reunites with his estranged sister, Fotia. She is a drover for the Armentas. Through her, they meet Velona Armenta, the clan’s head.
