Sixteen years before the main story, Cash Cunningham was a high school quarterback in West Virginia. He befriended Daisy Adair, a quiet foster youth, after she crashed her bicycle down a steep hill near his home.
Cash’s older brother Matthew suffered a career-ending leg injury and fell into drinking and gambling debt. He owed more than $100,000 to bookie associates and asked Cash to throw a football game to clear it.
Cash refused and threw a winning pass instead. In retaliation, the enforcers set the Cunningham house on fire while the family slept.
Cash climbed a tree and pulled Daisy out through his bedroom window. His parents and his brother died in the flames.
He then confronted a bookie associate named Jaimie, who was killed in the struggle. In the chaos, Cash believed he had also mortally wounded Daisy’s sister, Hadley.

Convinced he was a monster, Cash walked away from his football scholarship and disappeared. Daisy lost her best friend and her sister in the same night.

Cash fights them off and realizes the attack was aimed at him, not at Ethan. Forced proximity inside the cabin pushes him and Daisy toward feelings they buried years earlier.
He builds porch railings, buys toys, and reads bedtime stories to Eva. He gives Daisy his late mother’s ring, and the two finally admit what they have always felt.
They marry in a brief courthouse ceremony. That evening, Ethan finds them — and it emerges that Hadley survived the fire and was coerced into leading him to Daisy.
Ethan holds the Sovereign Sanctum women hostage inside the cabin and sets the house ablaze. Cash and his brothers climb onto the roof and cut through the ceiling with sledgehammers to pull everyone out.
Ethan is confronted and neutralized, ending his threat. A year later, Cash has rebuilt a six-bedroom cabin on the property.
He has fully embraced being a father to Addy, Colin, and Eva, and Daisy is pregnant with their child. His back tattoo now shows a field of blue daisies woven with his family’s names.
