One More Round Summary: Amber Palmer’s Small-Town Romance
Introduction – One More Round: A Homecoming Interrupted
A boardroom meeting in Los Angeles ends when Olivia Hart’s phone rings. Her uncle John is dying, and he has signed himself out of the hospital to spend his final months at home in Pinecrest, Tennessee.
That call pulls Olivia back to the mountain town she left behind, where her brother’s best friend, Duke Bennett, tends bar and raises his daughter alone. One More Round by Amber Palmer is the first book in the Pinecrest Ridge series.
It follows two single parents navigating grief, work obligations, and the possibility of starting over. The story alternates between Olivia’s and Duke’s perspectives as their lives intersect again after years apart.

TL;DR: The Short Version
Olivia Hart runs a billion-dollar record label. Duke Bennett pours drinks in the town where they both grew up.
When Olivia returns to care for her terminally ill uncle, the two collide in a grocery store aisle and slowly move from friction to something neither expected.
- Central pairing: A burned-out CEO and a divorced bartender, both raising nine-year-old daughters.
- Key setting: Pinecrest, Tennessee, a tight-knit mountain town facing pressure from outside developers.
- Main tension: Olivia’s sense of duty to her family’s company versus her own desire for a quieter life.
- Core themes: Grief, second chances, found family, and healing from old parental wounds.
- Tone: Warm and witty, with heavier emotional passages around illness and loss.
The novel is a character-driven slow burn told in dual first-person narration, and it reaches a full romantic resolution rather than a cliffhanger.

Spoiler warning: the following section describes the plot, including the ending.
Olivia Hart is in a corporate meeting in Los Angeles when her brother Lukas calls. Their uncle John has end-stage liver failure and has signed an AMA order to die at home in Pinecrest.
Olivia flies back immediately with her nine-year-old daughter, Charlie. At the grocery store she collides with Duke Bennett, spilling milk across him.
Duke is Lukas’s childhood best friend, a former mechanic who now owns Frank’s Bar. He is raising his daughter Harper alone after his ex-wife Sarah left two years earlier.

Their first exchange is tense. Duke reads Olivia as a detached executive, and Olivia finds him gruff and unpolished.
The dynamic shifts once Charlie and Harper meet and become inseparable. Olivia slips into Frank’s Bar alone one Sunday afternoon to escape her grief and work pressure.
Duke notices she has been drinking and takes her car keys to keep her off the road. The conversation that follows is the first honest one they share.
Over the following weeks, Olivia, Duke, Lukas, and Olivia’s ex-husband Grady settle into a shared social and co-parenting routine. Duke and Olivia trade late-night conversations and attend Harper’s soccer games.
Their chemistry builds, though Olivia keeps her distance. She believes she must return to Nashville or Los Angeles to protect her family’s legacy as CEO of Hartstrings Records.
As John’s health declines, he tells Duke his biggest regret is never telling Olivia that chasing her father’s memory through work will not bring him back. He asks Duke to get her out of the house so she can rest.
John dies peacefully shortly after, with Duke present. Duke holds Olivia while she breaks down.
At the funeral, Duke steps in when developer Edward Montgomery pressures Olivia. She later tells Duke about her alcoholic mother Susan, her feelings of inadequacy, and her exhaustion.
Duke confesses his love and asks Olivia to stay in Pinecrest or try long distance. Bound by obligation and guilt, Olivia refuses.
Duke tells her he cannot accept fragments of her time or play second choice, and the two separate.
The family then gathers for the reading of John’s will with attorney Allison Reid and Hartstrings counsel Carl Johnson. John leaves 40% of his monetary assets to Olivia, 40% to Lukas, and 20% to Susan, conditional on her completing rehab.
He leaves his house to Olivia and bequeaths her 100% of his majority shares in Hartstrings Records. Allison also hands Olivia a personal letter John wrote before his death.
In the letter, John says he regrets pushing her into the corporate world. He tells her she does not have to sacrifice her personal life for the company and urges her to live boldly for herself.
Reading it, Olivia realizes her uncle never wanted her to carry that burden. She decides to sell Hartstrings Records, resign as CEO, and move to Pinecrest for good.
Two months later, Duke is prepping Frank’s Bar for the weekend when Olivia walks through the door. She points to the “Help Wanted” sign and tells him she sold the company and bought a house in town.
She asks if he is up for one more round. They reunite, and the epilogue picks up six months later.
Olivia and Duke now live together at John’s renovated ranch house and co-own Frank’s Bar. During a celebration with family and friends, Duke proposes with a gold solitaire diamond ring, and Olivia accepts.

Quotes from One More Round
“It’s never too late to start over. To do the scary thing for the sake of your own peace. So take risks. Kiss your brother’s best friend. Do that body shot. You never know what may change your life.”
“Could you imagine being on your deathbed and having regrets?” He shook his head. “I couldn’t. Regrets are for fools.”
“You can’t live your life for someone else.”
“I’d rather take a thousand verbal blows than exist in your silence.”
“I told you I’ve got you, honey, and I fucking mean it. Whatever you want, whatever you need, it’s yours. You can trust me, Olivia.”
“I want to live, not just exist. I want to love and be loved back.”
“Live your life, Olivia. Live it boldly and without fear. Live it for you and no one else, and know that no matter what your decision may be, I will always be endlessly proud of you.”
“What do you say, Mr. Bennett? Up for one more round?”
