This Shattered Tempest Summary

After the masquerade ambush at Iantas, Talasyn wakes without her Lightweave magic. Daya Oryal Ferasai injected her with a sariman-infused serum, and Emperor Alaric Ossinast storms a Silklands hunting lodge to rescue her.

During the rescue, Talasyn finds a healer’s confession: her grandmother, Queen Urduja Silim, ordered the murder of her mother, Hanan Ivralis. Alaric’s stormship, the Deliverance, destroys the attacking moth coracles, but seven of Talasyn’s ten Lachis-dalo guards die.

Talasyn hides her lost magic and binds Alaric to secrecy. In Eskaya, she confronts Urduja over the mistreatment of Daya Ishan Vaikar and learns that Alaric’s father, Regent Gaheris, once extracted sariman blood for the serum.

Alaric takes Talasyn back to Kesath aboard the Deliverance. A slip by Daya Lueve Rasmey exposes Talasyn’s silence about her mother’s role in the Cataclysm, and Alaric grows distant.

Before they reach the Citadel, a servant reveals herself as Khaede, Talasyn’s long-lost Sardovian comrade. Khaede, posing as the maid Erith, explains that she survived a crash, gave birth to Nisandros, and now serves as an Allfold general.

She asks Talasyn to find the Voidfell source powering Kesath’s void ironclads. Talasyn joins imperial council sessions and pushes reforms, earning public sympathy in Grand Bight.

The Sardovian rebels ambush Kesathese surveyors at Shipsbane, and Regent Gaheris orders the captured rebels executed. Alaric performs the executions with shadow magic to shield Talasyn from suspicion.

Rebel explosions then rock the Citadel, and Khaede confirms the Voidfell source sits at Mahagir’s Rest. Talasyn and Khaede take a catamaran armed with seven metalglass spheres made by Ishan Vaikar.

Talasyn hurls the spheres into the Voidfell device, pulling thirty Kesathese warships into aetherspace. As the fortress collapses, Alaric learns of Talasyn’s betrayal.

He kills his own soldiers to let her escape, and Talasyn flees to Vasiyas. She enters Bakun’s lair and rides the dragon to the Dawn Isles.

On the Dawn Isles, Talasyn meets her aunt Cahyir, Matriarch of the Ivralis clan. Cahyir says the Lightweave is buried, not destroyed, and sends Talasyn up the Path of the Sun.

During eclipses, Talasyn and Alaric meet in the In-Between, where their love and political divides collide. Guided by visions of Iyaram and her childhood, Talasyn reaches the summit and steps into the Light Severs.

Her magic returns. She rides Bakun to Nenavar and confronts Oryal, who confesses that Urduja blackmailed her.

Talasyn then flies to Urduja’s flagship, the W’taida, and confronts her grandmother over Hanan’s murder.

She refuses to kill Urduja, breaking the family cycle of vengeance, and strips her of authority.

Moments later, timed explosives destroy the W’taida and kill Urduja. Talasyn reunites with her father, Prince Elagbi, and the Dominion proclaims her Harlikaan, the new Zahiya-lachis and Dragon Queen.

As queen, Talasyn exposes Daya Lueve Rasmey as Urduja’s assassin and exiles her. She convinces the Dominion council to send the Huktera fleet to the Continent for a ceasefire.

On the Continent, Regent Gaheris commands the western front while Alaric leads the Shadowforged Legion in the south. Grand Bight is leveled.

During an eclipse, Alaric attacks Talasyn in the In-Between, and she reveals her restored magic and new title. Talasyn arrives with the Dominion fleet and turns its cannons away from Kesath, toward the Allfold.

She boards Alaric’s flagship to negotiate, but Gaheris summons them to The Exalted and orders Alaric to execute her. Alaric turns his scythe on his father and kills him.

Commodore Lisu broadcasts a false accusation and launches a coup. Bakun crushes The Exalted in midair.

On the beach, Lisu prepares to kill Alaric, and Talasyn pulls herself through eclipse magic to take the blade. She is impaled but survives.

Lisu’s coup fails, and a ceasefire follows. Alaric stays at Talasyn’s bedside reciting his vows.

She wakes, and they negotiate a peace treaty. Superweapons are disarmed, void hearts return to Nenavar, and stormships become civilian housing. Bakun returns to the Eversea.

Five years later, Talasyn and Alaric live in Nenavar with their daughter Hiraya, and Talasyn is pregnant again.

Former enemies gather under plumeria trees at the Roof of Heaven.
