Kansas and the Storm
Dorothy Gale arrives at Aunt Em and Uncle Henry’s farm as a traumatized toddler, handed over by a bleeding woman during a violent storm. She grows up with her Cairn terrier, Toto, and emotionally walls herself off from potential abandonment.
As an adult, she has secret encounters with her neighbor Edward Gilbert but refuses his marriage proposals. When a glittering cyclone hits, Dorothy runs to save Toto, and the farmhouse is torn from its foundation.
Arrival in Oz and the Death of Delphine
The house lands in the East End of Oz, crushing Delphine, the Witch of the East. Delphine attacks Dorothy in the cellar, and Dorothy kills her in self-defense with a butter crock and a kitchen knife.
Local farmers celebrate the tyrant’s death. When Mathian removes Delphine’s silver slippers, her corpse disintegrates. Locasta, the Good Witch of the North, arrives and tries to seize the slippers, but they vanish and reappear inside Dorothy’s house.
Dorothy puts them on, feels a surge of warmth, and changes into her blue-and-white checkered dress. Locasta instructs her to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard for passage home.
The Road, Rook, and the Tinman
On the Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy finds a handsome, beaten man tied to a pole in a cornfield with no memory. She names him Rook and invites him to join her.
Meanwhile, in a West End tavern, Silas—the Tinman, a mercenary with a metal arm and no heart—is summoned by Faos, commander of the winged monkeys. The Witch of the West offers to release Silas’s imprisoned brother, Gabriel, if Silas captures Dorothy and brings her to West Castle alive.
Gabriel is held captive because he can find lost things, including lost gods.

Glimming Hollow
Dorothy and Rook arrive in Glimming Hollow, the principal city of the East End. Provost Viviana “Ana” Luzia and the Council hail Dorothy as their liberator and host her at the Red Wander inn, run by Remy.
A fortune teller named Henrietta reveals that Rook is pursued by the Tinman and is seeking a “soul.” She privately warns Dorothy that her love with Rook “ignites everything it touches” and to beware the Tinman.
Rook overhears Council member Fink conspiring with guards to help the Tinman capture Dorothy. At a celebration ball, an alarm sounds as Silas enters the city.
Guards ambush Rook in the garden, but Dorothy accidentally releases a violent blast of wind.
Escape and Intimacy
They steal a mare named Sabil and return to the inn. Silas corners them in the kitchen, and Rook stabs him in the shoulder with a kitchen knife. Remy guides them to a hidden hatch and gives them a vial to mask their scent from winged monkeys.
While hiding in an abandoned house, Dorothy picks up a book titled When the Gods Roamed Oz.
In an underground tunnel, the tension between Dorothy and Rook boils over, and they make love in the dirt.
The Ambush in the Forest
Silas forces Cleo to stitch his shoulder wound without medication. He doses himself with blood-thinning Oil and uses winged monkeys to track Dorothy outside the city.
In the dark forest, winged monkeys attack. Rook fights them off with tree branches, but Silas drives his axe into Rook’s back. Rook collapses, spewing blood, and is left for dead.
Silas takes Dorothy captive and orders the monkeys to fly her to West Castle. Cleo stays behind with Rook’s body, which vanishes moments later, leaving only a mosaic of bloody leaves.
The Climax at West Castle
Dorothy is imprisoned in the West Castle dungeons across from Gabriel. Silas arrives to retrieve the silver slippers, but they vanish and reappear on Dorothy’s feet when she tries to hand them over.
Silas and Gabriel realize the slippers can only be given willingly.
Water inexplicably pools around Dorothy’s feet, and Gabriel notes that water is the secret fatal weakness of the Witch of the West.
Silas pours out his life-sustaining Oil so Dorothy can fill his canteen with dungeon water. Silas escorts Dorothy to the gallery where the Witch of the West removes her golden mask, revealing a snow-white third eye.
The Witch chokes Silas, causing him to vomit blood. Dorothy throws the canteen, but the water has dried into ash.
She lunges forward and grabs the Witch’s wrists; water pours from Dorothy’s hands onto the Witch’s skin, causing her flesh to crack and smoke.
As she crumbles into ash, the Witch reveals she is the woman who dropped toddler Dorothy at the Kansas farmhouse. Her dying words are: “Dorothy, you are home.”
In the Witch’s clothing, Dorothy finds a note bequeathing her the golden mask and warning her to never trust or seek the Wizard of Oz and to destroy him.
The Ending and Cliffhanger
Rook walks into the room, alive, uninjured, and smiling. Dorothy throws her arms around him. Rook leans into her ear and whispers, “I’m the Wizard of Oz,” then drives a knife into her ribs.
In the epilogue, Silas lies dying from lack of Oil. He realizes “Rook” was the Wizard of Oz in disguise all along, pretending to have amnesia to manipulate Dorothy into murdering the Witch so he could steal her golden mask and gain control over Gabriel.
The Wizard takes the golden mask and descends to the dungeon to find Gabriel and locate the lost gods. Silas watches Dorothy lying motionless in a growing pool of blood, and as his consciousness fades, he hears the distant roaring of a lion.
In a bonus scene, Locasta visits the Emerald Palace to propose marriage to the Wizard, only to be sent on a mission to intercept Dorothy.
