Vivienne Abbot limps into Fever Dream bleeding and half-conscious. She tells the club’s owner, the demon lord Deacon Graveheart, that his brother Reid has been taken at the docks by Finn, son of the High Thane of the Brood.

She also delivers worse news: the rogue former Harker dean, Edgar Driscoll, carved a syrabraxa spell into her back before Reid killed him.

Deacon patches her up enough to move. Viv knows the Brood will come for her, so she retrieves her mortal roommate Penny and smuggles her through the portal inside The Windsor hotel.

Mortals are forbidden at Harker Academy. Interim dean Fiona Hyde hides Penny as an auditing student anyway.

Fiona confirms the spell has no cure without the warlock who cast it. Deacon confirms the timeline: three to four months before Viv loses her mind.

Worse, the High Thane owns an ancient artifact called the censer. On a new moon, he can use it to kill Viv and absorb the spell’s world-breaking power without going mad.

Submerged in the lagoon, Viv’s scar glows and proves her aeon identity to Landon. Deacon kills the guards to save her, and both become fugitives wanted by the Citadel.

Seeking a cure, Viv, Deacon, and Ward visit Nicco, a djinn broker at Simon and Sons. Nicco explains that he was bound by wishes centuries ago to hide an ancient Sumerian relic.

The relic is the Caspian Ring, created by King Caspian of Mesopotamia. It can draw out and store a syrabraxa spell.

Finn’s Brood ambushes Fever Dream. Viv and Deacon flee to Harker and take shelter in the locked archives, where they find Reid.

Reid’s real plan is revealed. Consumed by self-hatred for his demon nature, he has allied with a turned warlock named Orin to mind-control Harker students.

His goal is to find the Caspian Ring, absorb the syrabraxa, and trigger a mass extinction of every deviant on Earth, himself included.

Reid holds Fiona hostage to force her to reveal the ring’s location. Under duress, she says the Elders claimed it was buried in the tombs.

Viv pieces the riddle together. The “attic” is The Windsor, and the “tombs” are the catacombs beneath the museum’s Rare Gems exhibit.

At a press conference, Beatrice announces that Caspar has arranged to move Viv’s estranged grandmother, Ada, into a long-term care facility.

Viv realizes Ada was an aeon and a syrabraxa host decades earlier. Caspar now has a second viable host for his ritual.

On the night of the 50th Annual Windsor Gala, with a new moon arriving at midnight, Viv’s group infiltrates the catacombs. They navigate traps and ogres to reach an ancient stone chest.

During the battle, Peter is crushed and killed while shielding his friends.
