Blood of Truth and Traitors Summary: The Full Story
Spoiler warning: This section reveals major plot points and the ending.
Rose Kultavaris, once a slum survivor from Wrohelm, crosses the snow-bound mountain pass with Prince Kyor, her bonded dire wolf Fen, and her companions.
They seek answers about her newly awakened ice magic beyond the hidden barrier called the pyrrhic.
What they find is Isthyr, a city of glistening ice and white marble that no outsider has ever seen.
At the mountain ledge, Issen guards kneel before Rose.
They recognize the ring and dagger she carriesāheirlooms belonging to her late mother, Reeva.
The guards escort the group into the city, where General Greta Ranveeg imprisons them in the fengsel dungeon before King Magnus intervenes.
Magnus welcomes Rose as his long-lost granddaughter. To confirm her bloodline, Rose agrees to undergo the Rite of the Veil.
She walks through crimson flames in a subterranean cave and emerges unharmed. A golden beam of light shoots into the sky, signaling to all of Isthyr that the lost princess has returned.
The celebration does not last. Caz, the party’s researcher, discovers an ancient text describing a fatal caveat. Once an Issen heir completes the Rite of the Veil, black lace markings appear on their skin.
These markings act as poison, killing the heir within one moon unless they complete all three stages of the Rite.
Rose now has twenty-eight days to live. She begins training with Stefan Valar, a formidable warrior and former heir to the throne.
Stefan offers to help control her volatile ice magic, but Kyor distrusts him deeply. The two men clash frequently as Rose struggles to master powers tied to her emotional state.
Uzra Ruskin, a former Morathkian commander who defected to Isthyr years ago, reveals that King KorvaneāKyor’s fatherāattempted a covert invasion of Isthyr decades ago.
He manipulated Magnus’s trust to do it.
The revelation deepens the political fractures within the city, where General Ranveeg and her daughter Brida align with Stefan in wanting war against Morathka.

The second stage of the Veil brings Rose into contact with the God Oel, who calls her “Child of Four” and bestows enhanced power upon her for an impending Great War.
Through conversations with Magnus and recitations by Thessaāa Sanning sentinel trained to preserve oral historyāRose learns her extraordinary lineage. Her mother was half-Issen and half-Sanning, while her father possessed Morathkian and Torailian heritage. Rose is a fusion of all four major peoples.
Caz uncovers records detailing three ancient Blades of Vindrun, including the dagger Rose carries. The blades’ purpose is transcribed as: “One to bind, one to free, one to kill.” Meanwhile, Benny and Ruben solidify their romantic bond, and Benny works with Kyor to plan a rebellion against Korvane.
Stefan leads Rose, Ruben, Benny, and Fen far onto the snow plains for training. Unknown to Rose, the city’s early-warning alarms have been sabotaged.
A pack of giant jƶtnar attacks without warning. Stefan deliberately fails to assist as Rose and Ruben fight desperately to save Benny.
Rose channels overwhelming magic into Ruben, enabling him to incinerate the giants with colossal fire. The exertion drains Ruben’s life force completely.
He dies in Benny’s arms on the ice. King Magnus holds a tribunal, strips Stefan of his magic, and banishes him permanently. The city honors Ruben with a silent Issen funeral, scattering his body as melting ice sculptures at dawn.
General Ranveeg commits treason by leaking Isthyr’s location to Korvane’s forces. A Morathkian vanguard arrives demanding Rose hand over her blade.
Ranveeg attempts to execute Rose, but Rose strikes her with the magical dagger. Judged by the blade, Ranveeg bleeds out and dies.
A contingent of veiled Torailian warriors led by Aulia arrives in Isthyr.
Aulia recognizes Rose as Skakka, the central figure in the Last Prophecy destined to lead the world against Sanrott and the rising darkness of Myrkrs and Rottings. Using her Raven Sight, Rose observes hordes of Rottings swarming the Morathkian city of Galreck.
With only days remaining before the poison kills her, Rose enters the final stage of the Veil. She relives the night of Queen Knavin’s death in Wrohelmāthe event that sparked her family’s downfall.
This time, Rose watches closely and discovers a crushing truth. Her mother, Reeva, alongside Priestess Dinah, deliberately stopped administering the Queen’s tonic. They intentionally allowed Kyor’s mother and unborn sibling to die. Rose’s mother was the true Queenkiller.
Accepting this horrific truth completes the final lesson of the Veil. Golden flames roar, and the black poison vanishes from Rose’s arms, replaced by permanent, glowing white royal Issen markings.
Meanwhile, Kyor temporarily stops his own heart using lightning magic to break the absolute vow of secrecy enforced by his father, before being revived by Uzra’s granddaughter Orla.
Reunited and free from secrecy vows, Kyor pledges his undying love and loyalty to Rose. Before Rose can confess the terrible secret about her mother, her Raven Sight uncontrollably yanks her consciousness back into the sky.
She flies over the realm as the Great War begins.
