House of Idyll Book Summary: Dark Rock Cult Horror

Introduction

Angelina Yves is a barista with a contralto voice and rent she cannot pay. When one morning strips her of both her job and her home, a bassist from the legendary gothic rock band Black Idyll offers her a ride — and an invitation.

House of Idyll by Delilah S. Dawson follows her into a nonprofit artists’ sanctuary funded by frontman Jesper Idyll’s fortune, where housing, equipment, and creative freedom come free of charge.

The estate is white, quiet, and immaculate. Its rules are simple. The novel moves from artistic ambition into occult horror as Angelina learns what the sanctuary asks in return.

House of Idyll Summary

Spoilers ahead.

Angelina Yves works a punishing barista shift at a Hollywood cafĆ© while caring for her former professor’s elderly aunt.

A customer in all white, Solomon, leaves a twenty-dollar bill stamped with Black Idyll lyrics. That same day, the aunt’s dementia leads to a false theft accusation and Angelina is evicted.

After scalding her hand, she curses at an influencer and loses her job. She sits on a concrete bench and busks. Solomon pulls up in a black SUV and invites her to “jump off the cliff.” Angelina photographs the license plate, shares her location, and gets in.

Driver Mr. B takes them out of Los Angeles into a forest valley behind white stone pillars and iron gates. The House of Idyll is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creative sanctuary funded by Jesper Idyll’s billions. It offers free room, board, equipment, and total creative freedom.

Jesper interviews Angelina alone, asking what the source of all beauty is. She answers, “Nature or the knife.” He approves her stay. Angelina reads the simple contract, receives a custom Vantablack MacBook Air, and signs.

She adopts the mandatory all-white wardrobe and befriends Van, a painter. She takes Kundalini yoga with drummer Nico Ioannou and eats at the central hub called “the Well.” Then she finds a decapitated white hen in the garden gazebo with no blood or weapon marks.

Van disappears overnight. Solomon claims she took a secret mural job in New York. Solomon then invites Angelina into the Inner Circle, an elite group of band members and favored residents. During a vulnerability ritual, she discloses her Baptist upbringing and a past assault.

Jesper gives her a silver unicorn necklace and later sends an unreleased demo. She writes a counterpoint track that moves him. She is assigned to welcome Megan, a seventeen-year-old runaway. At a full-moon silent rave, Solomon gives her an MDMA pill.

Dancing with Jesper, Nico, and dancer Maria Perez, Angelina sees a live white unicorn with a twisted black horn. It kneels, carries her to an ancient adobe church, and a man in a unicorn head mask asks for her consent. She agrees.

The next morning she realizes the man lacked Jesper’s unicorn back tattoo. In the church she finds Megan dead on the rose-petal altar, wrists slashed, wearing Angelina’s white linen dress. Her 911 call is intercepted by compound security.

Jesper tells her Megan was too broken to be saved and that sensitive camera footage is deleted automatically. At the next Inner Circle meeting, he states that Angelina is the only person the unicorn has ever chosen. A memorial follows.

The band flies to New York for the Grammys. During a storm, Angelina sees wild horses panicking and a naked man in a unicorn mask outside her second-story glass door. She flees to the villa, takes a chef’s knife, and finds a hidden red-velvet room.

Inside, Maria Perez hangs manacled to a wooden X cross surrounded by band members in animal masks. Jesper unmasks and calls it a DIY music video shoot. They invite Angelina to take Maria’s place, filming her as she is manacled and claimed.

News then breaks that Maria was found dead at Chateau Marmont, skinned alive and stabbed. Jesper dismisses Angelina’s fears and grows cold. He later serenades her outside her cottage with an acoustic apology and invites her to record guest vocals on the new album.

She records two flawless takes, followed by champagne at Nobu Malibu. Back at the villa, Jesper proposes a blindfolded sex fantasy and ties her to the X cross. When she removes the blindfold, the whole band stands in robes beside a figure in a real unicorn head.

Angelina fights: she kicks Jesper, bites Solomon’s nipple ring out of his chest, and gouges Nico’s eye with a brass candle snuffer. She grabs a black-horn dagger and drives it into Jesper’s side, dragging it up into his ribs.

As Jesper bleeds out, the unicorn figure identifies itself as Amdusias, a Duke of Hell. Manny hands over the contract, revealing that Black Idyll’s fame was built on blood sacrifices of women. Angelina takes the black quill, dips it in Jesper’s blood, scratches out his name, and signs her own.

In the epilogue interview, Angelina — now Angeline Idyll — leads the rebranded band White Idyll. She confirms the sold-out tenth-anniversary tour, the number-one platinum album, and the continuing operation of the House of Idyll sanctuary under the demonic pact.

Before

Prologue: Interview Transcript

An interview transcript shows Jesper Idyll discussing Black Idyll’s sold-out international stadium tour and platinum album. He credits their success to original fifth member Vivian, who died before seeing it. Asked about the nature of her death, Jesper angrily ends the interview.

Chapter 1

Angelina works an exhausting barista shift while supporting herself and caring for her professor’s elderly aunt. A handsome customer in all white, Sol, leaves a twenty-dollar tip stamped with Black Idyll lyrics. Her professor calls to evict her over the aunt’s dementia-driven theft accusations.

After scalding her hand with steamed milk, Angelina is fired and sings a defiant song at an influencer filming her.

Chapter 2

Jobless and homeless, Angelina busks on a concrete bench with her hat out. Solomon pulls up in a black SUV playing Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory.” After she quotes Black Idyll lyrics back at him, he invites her to “jump off the cliff.” She photographs the license plate, shares her location, and gets in.

Chapter 3

Angelina questions Sol and driver Mr. B about whether she is being scouted or abducted. They leave Los Angeles for a secluded forest compound behind white stone pillars and grand gates. Sol leads her through the estate of a grand white villa, tiny homes, and lush nature, then up polished stairs to a heavy wooden door.

Chapter 4

Angelina enters a pristine white room where Jesper Idyll sits barefoot in lotus position. He asks her for the source of all beauty, and she answers, “Nature or the knife.” She admits her desire to make music without worrying about survival, and they debate whether art exposes ugliness or creates beauty.

Jesper laughs and tells Sol to give her a full tour.

Chapter 5

Sol explains that House of Idyll is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creative incubator funded by Jesper’s fortune. He shows her a row of white tiny houses and offers her one free, along with a new Vantablack MacBook Air. Mr. B asks whether she is signing the contract or needs a ride back to Los Angeles.

Wanting to avoid returning to Georgia, Angelina signs.

Chapter 6

Angelina inspects her luxurious tiny home, which has no clothes, food, or television. Resident painter Van greets her and takes her to the Well, the central dining hub. Van introduces her to the gardens, studios, and Outfitting shop, where Angelina trades her old clothes for an all-white wardrobe.

She transfers her music files but feels her work lacks soul, then dreams of wild horses chased toward a cliff.

Chapter 7

Jesper wakes Angelina at dawn and walks her through misty forest to a beach by a large lake. He says he reviewed her background and social media clips and admires her voice. He improvises a song about racehorses and goats before leaving for his studio. Alone, Angelina watches a herd of horses flee the lake before an unnatural storm hits.

Chapter 8

Angelina sprints through torrential rain and falling branches to her tiny house. After a nap she wakes inspired and writes a new love song, then finds a white Martin acoustic guitar on her kitchen table. In the garden she finds a white chicken with its head cleanly severed and no blood.

Shaken, she attends Nico’s Kundalini hot yoga class.

Chapter 9

Nico leads the class through chanting and stretching that brings Angelina emotional peace. Afterwards she eats sushi with residents and watches Jesper take Maria Perez upstairs. Jesper sends her an unreleased demo using her racehorse metaphor, and she records a counterpoint song in reply. At a lakeside drum circle she drinks Van’s herbal wine, kisses Van, and is carried to the villa by Jesper.

Chapter 10

Angelina wakes on her couch with a severe hangover and fragmented memories. At the Well, everyone looks ill, and Van’s house is being cleaned out for a new occupant. Gardener Marnie dismisses her question about the dead chicken. Solomon visits and claims Van left for a secret New York mural job, then invites Angelina into the Inner Circle.

Chapter 11

In a white linen gown and gold makeup, Angelina climbs the candlelit villa staircase to join the Inner Circle. Jesper and Solomon explain that membership requires total honesty and trust. Angelina discloses her strict Baptist upbringing and a traumatic assault by a preacher’s son. Jesper gifts her a silver unicorn necklace and welcomes her with champagne.

Chapter 12

Weeks pass in a blur of creative output as Angelina writes new songs and embraces compound life. Solomon asks her to be the Welcome Wagon for Megan, a traumatized seventeen-year-old runaway. Angelina helps her settle in and feels protective of her. That night a masked woman leads her to a black-light silent rave, where Solomon offers her MDMA.

Chapter 13

Under the drug’s influence, Angelina dances with Jesper, Maria, and Nico in headphones and a mask. The music shifts to dark chanting as the crowd dons black cloaks and forms a circle. A live white unicorn with a twisted black horn kneels and carries her to an old adobe church. A masked man asks for her consent, and she agrees.

Chapter 14

Angelina wakes naked in her bed with a headache and vivid memories of the church. She recalls that the masked man lacked Jesper’s unicorn back tattoo and begins to question who he was. Following cloven hoofprints to the adobe church, she finds Megan dead on a bed of rose petals with slashed wrists, wearing Angelina’s white dress.

Chapter 15

Angelina’s 911 call is rerouted to compound security, and Jesper arrives to comfort her. Security handles the scene while Jesper takes the blood-covered Angelina to the villa. At the Inner Circle meeting that night, he explains camera deletion policies and answers her questions about STI testing. Asked about the unicorn, he says she is the only person it has ever chosen.

Chapter 16

The compound holds a memorial for Megan with a Black Idyll performance and the release of a white dove. Angelina begins a relationship with Jesper and spends nights at his villa. While the band flies to New York for the Grammys, she watches their winning performance on television.

During a storm that night, she spots a naked man in a unicorn mask outside her second-story balcony door.

Chapter 17

Angelina flees through the storm to the villa and arms herself with a chef’s knife. Hearing dark music, she opens a hidden door into a red-velvet chamber lit by black candles.

Maria Perez hangs manacled to a giant wooden X cross, surrounded by figures in animal masks. Jesper unmasks and claims it is not what it looks like, while a man in an owl mask blocks the exit.

Chapter 18

Angelina threatens the masked men, but Solomon disarms her and says they are shooting a DIY music video. Manny, Nico, and Maria confirm the concept for a song called “Un1c0rn.” Jesper invites Angelina to replace Maria, filming her as she is dragged across the room and manacled to the cross. As he places a cold hand on her forehead and claims her, genuine terror grips her.

Chapter 19

Manny calls cut and the band praises her performance. Jesper takes her to his room, where she describes the naked man in the unicorn mask on her balcony.

He reassures her and locks the room, comforting her until morning. After breakfast he walks her home, where she finds her house spotless and without footprints, then reads that Maria Perez was found dead at Chateau Marmont.

Chapter 20

Angelina finds an uncensored photo showing Maria was skinned alive and stabbed in her hotel room. She confronts Jesper in the recording barn, but he reacts with cold anger and dismisses her fears.

She wanders to the lake and finds the rotting carcass of a wild palomino eaten by vultures. Returning home, she hears Jesper serenading her outside the window.

Chapter 21

In his Grammy tuxedo, Jesper plays a battered acoustic guitar and sings an apologetic love song dedicated to her. Angelina forgives him, and he invites her to record guest vocals on Black Idyll’s new album. She records two flawless takes of a dark duet, followed by a champagne dinner at Nobu Malibu.

After Nico punches a paparazzi photographer, the group returns to the compound.

Chapter 22

Jesper carries Angelina to the villa and proposes a blindfolded sex fantasy. He undresses her down to her unicorn pendant and backs her against the wooden X cross in the red room. As he buckles the leather manacles around her wrists, panic overtakes her.

She tears off the blindfold and sees the entire band surrounding her beside a tall figure in a real unicorn head.

Chapter 23

Realizing she is trapped in a genuine occult ritual over a painted pentacle and rune-carved altar, Angelina fights for her life. She kicks Jesper in the groin, bites Solomon’s nipple ring out of his chest, and gouges Nico’s eye with a brass candle snuffer.

Breaking free, she grabs a black-horn ritual knife from the altar and stabs Jesper in the side, dragging the blade up into his ribs.

Chapter 24

As Jesper falls to his knees, Angelina pulls the knife free and drags it upward into his ribs. Solomon sits on a sheepskin clutching his bleeding chest while Manny stands frozen with the contract packet. The figure on the throne stands, revealing the unicorn head is its real head, and identifies itself as Amdusias, a Duke of Hell.

Manny hands Angelina the contract, which reveals the demonic foundation of the band’s fame. She takes the black quill, dips it in Jesper’s wound, scratches out his name, and signs her own to claim the pact.
