A Married Little Christmas Summary: Cozy Holiday Romance
TL;DR: Three Novellas, One Snowy Minnesota Christmas
A Married Little Christmas by Abby Jimenez is a holiday romance collection built around three linked stories rather than a single couple.
All three take place in snow-dusted Minnesota during December, moving from suburban family homes in Minneapolis to a Pancake Disco diner and finally to the holiday-obsessed town of Little Christmas.
The novellas share a family name, a season, and a habit of dropping characters into awkward situations.
Each story follows a different pair, and each one runs on its own clock in the days before Christmas Eve.
Three interconnected Christmas novellas, each following a separate couple in Minnesota.
- “Sweater Weather”: A lawyer hiding from her sister’s disastrous cooking orders delivery and finds her high school ex-boyfriend at the gate. They pose as a couple, then confront a nine-year-old breakup.
- “Stealing Christmas”: A musician loses a bet and spends thirteen hours in a Zombie Santa costume at a diner, where he helps a server recover a cat stolen by her ex.
- “Marry Little Christmas”: A boutique manager tries to stop her best friend’s three-day engagement and ends up falling for the groom’s skeptical best friend.
The collection leans on second chances, whirlwind decisions, family chaos, and small-town holiday traditions. An epilogue ties the final couple together a year later.

A Married Little Christmas Summary: What Happens in the Book
Spoiler warning: this section covers the plot and endings of all three novellas.
“Sweater Weather” opens on December 16.
Anna Bellthrope, a Minneapolis corporate lawyer, attends an early Christmas dinner at her parents’ house because her sister Jodie works on the holiday. Jodie insists on cooking everything herself, and the kitchen produces smoke alarms, a counter-thawed turkey, and mashed potatoes made with vanilla oat milk.
Anna secretly orders pancakes and potatoes from Pancake Disco and asks the driver to meet her at the side gate. The driver is Dr. Jeremy Todd, her high school sweetheart, whom she has not spoken to in nine years.
Her father spots them hiding behind the air conditioner, and Anna blurts out that Jeremy is her date. He plays along, and they realize they are wearing identical red Christmas tree sweaters. Jeremy agrees to cover for her on one condition: she comes to his family’s Christmas gathering down the road.
At the Todd house, Anna reunites with Jeremy’s mother Debra, his four brothers, and his ninety-year-old grandmother Bridgette. Old photo albums resurface the breakup. Jeremy had taken a medical residency in California, while Anna stayed in Minnesota to support her mother through breast cancer treatment.
They had already split, but Anna flew out three months later to visit him. She saw him kissing another girl outside his dorm, blocked him, and never called again. Jeremy tells her he assumed she had moved on and regretted the moment ever since.
Jodie burns her turkey beyond saving, and the Bellthrope family ends up joining the Todds for dinner. Anna and Jeremy talk on the porch, clear up nine years of miscommunication, and kiss. In Abby Jimenez’s first novella, they agree to take a holiday trip to Little Christmas together.
“Stealing Christmas” begins on December 19 at six in the morning. Matty Todd, the youngest brother, has lost a bet and must spend thirteen hours at Pancake Disco dressed as Zombie Santa, complete with a green cape and a cheap mask.
His server is Rhiannon, a college student working a double shift to pay tuition and fund a private investigator. She explains that her ex-boyfriend Tate stole her black-and-white cat, Christmas, and then vanished off the grid.
Matty eats endless stacks of pancakes to satisfy the bet and helps out during a lunch rush. When an eighteen-person party stiffs Rhiannon on a tip, he quietly slides a hundred dollars of his own money under a plate.
Her coworker Laci catfishes Tate on Tinder and discovers he is staying with his grandmother in Room 12 at Mayflower Senior Living. Matty builds a plan around his saxophone: he poses as a scheduled holiday musician to draw the residents into the rec room.
While he plays, Rhiannon slips into Room 12. She chooses honesty with Tate’s grandmother, who is thoroughly tired of her grandson and hands the cat over without argument. Rhiannon returns to the rec room, requests “Jingle Bells,” and wins a date with Matty to Little Christmas.

“Marry Little Christmas” starts on December 21. Lauren, a boutique manager, gets a video call from her best friend Noel, an architect. Noel announces she is moving to Little Christmas and marrying a pine tree farmer named Nicholas Claus on Christmas Eve, three days after meeting him.
Lauren drives three hours to stop the wedding. At the pub Holiday Spirits, she meets Nicholas’s best friend, Chicago divorce attorney William Dixon, who is equally alarmed. The two form an alliance.
Over bowls of ramen, they draft a prenuptial agreement that protects Nicholas’s estate, provides for Noel after she leaves her job, and gives Noel ownership of the town’s struggling hot chocolate shop. Nicholas and Noel sign it without complaint.
The next two days bring rehearsals, engagement parties, ugly sweater events, and snowmobile tours. William grew up in Little Christmas but left, and he finds himself falling for Lauren.
Then a thief steals the town’s 1859 Santa’s Sleigh from the local museum and damages its runner in a ditch. The sleigh has led the Christmas Eve parade for 165 years.
Lauren, William, Nicholas, Noel, and Sheriff Wayne load it into a trailer in secret. Lauren and William drive two hours to St. Cloud to see Big Al, a mechanic with antique car expertise, who repairs the sleigh for free after recalling the parades of his childhood.
They return minutes before the wedding, with no time to change, so they attend in ugly Christmas sweaters. Nicholas and Noel marry and ride the sleigh in the parade.
On Christmas morning, William prepares to drive back to Chicago. After a farewell kiss, he turns the car around and asks Lauren whether he can move to Little Christmas while she takes over the hot chocolate shop. She says yes.
A year later, on Christmas Eve, Lauren and William marry in Little Christmas. Noel and Nicholas stand as maid of honor and best man, and the four friends close out the collection together.

Quotes from A Married Little Christmas
“Being with her was so easy. Loving Anna was like breathing. It always had been. Just something I did without even needing to think about it, part of my involuntary nervous system, a function that exists to keep me alive.”
“It’s funny how when you love someone, truly, truly love someone, some things just don’t matter. You’re going to put up with their bad habits and quirks because you know that no matter how much they irritate you, your world is inherently better with them in it.”
“The opposite of love isn’t hate, Jeremy. It’s indifference. I’m definitely not indifferent to you and I probably never will be.”
“I am not under any obligation to be the same person I was last week,” she said. “Maybe I hated who I was last week.”
“The wonder when you grow up is seeing the wonder in someone else. You might not believe in the magic anymore, but you get to be the magic instead. You’re the one behind the curtain, moving the gears.”
“I thought you didn’t like Little Christmas,” I said, gazing up at him.
“No. But I very much love Little Christmas with you in it.”
