Little Death Summary (Spoilers Ahead)

Spoiler warning: this section covers the whole plot, including the ending.

On the night before Halloween, Catriona uses her father’s invitation to enter a masked charity gala. Her father is Senator Rory Gallagher.

The gala is held at the mansion where her mother died six months earlier, a death officially ruled a suicide that Catriona does not accept.

With her friend Yasmine texting her from afar, Catriona slips upstairs to her mother’s old library. She picks the lock and finds the pale pink phone in a secret compartment under the window seat.

Before she can leave, voices approach. Catriona hides in a closet and hears Aiden and his associate Eamon confront Dufresne, a corrupt police officer who is blackmailing Aiden. Aiden and Eamon shoot Dufresne just outside her hiding place.

When Catriona tries to slip away, Aiden catches her at the door. She lies about looking for a bathroom and proposes a game of chance. Aiden produces dice: an odd roll sets her free, and an even roll keeps her with him until morning.

Aiden rolls snake eyes. He sets rules: she stays beside him, speaks to no one, drinks little and does not resist his touch.

Downstairs, Aiden uses her as his alibi among wealthy guests like Hudson and Crawley. Pulling her onto his lap at a gambling table, he sexually coerces her in front of the oblivious crowd. Catriona then retreats to a bathroom and decides to break the deal.

She bolts for the garage with Aiden chasing her, and the chase jolts her out of months of numb grief. In the garage she hits him in the face with a golf club. Aiden smiles through his bloody nose, catches her as she crawls under the closing door and carries her back inside.

In her parents’ former bedroom, Aiden locks the door and holds his gun to her temple. The rest of the night is a sexually explicit power struggle, which ends with Catriona declaring herself his.

Aiden falls asleep around 3:00 a.m. Catriona takes her purse with her mother’s phone and climbs out of the bedroom window into the Halloween dawn.

The final chapter switches to Aiden’s point of view. He interrogates a guest who had harassed Catriona, and the man admits he recognized her as the senator’s daughter. Aiden shoots him to protect her secret, and Eamon disposes of both bodies.

Later, at the Emerald Isle casino, syndicate boss Cian Lynch demands the $5 million still owed by Senator Gallagher.

Gallagher had given up the family estate as a down payment on a $10 million debt. Aiden realizes his “little pet” is Gallagher’s daughter, pulls up the security footage of her arrival and vows to hunt her down.
