End of Days Summary: A Pike Logan Thriller

End of Days: A Pike Logan Novel — What the Book Is About

A retired Mossad chief falls from the sky above Interlaken, Switzerland, and the note left on his pilot’s body points to Iranian-backed militants.

That single staged death sets off a chain of assassinations across Europe and the Middle East in End of Days, the sixteenth Pike Logan novel by Brad Taylor.

Israeli intelligence believes its own networks have been penetrated, so two former Mossad contractors go looking for help outside official channels.

What begins as a quiet, off-the-books surveillance job becomes a race to stop a plot designed to ignite a war between Israel and Iran.

TL;DR: The Short Briefing

End of Days is a globe-trotting military thriller built on a false-flag conspiracy.

A rogue cell of former special operations soldiers is assassinating officials and leaving evidence that frames Iranian proxies, hoping to provoke a war that will reshape the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

  • Who leads the hunt: Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill, joined by Israeli contractors Aaron Bergman and Shoshana.
  • The real enemy: A cell of Croatian war veterans led by an American security chief working in Rome.
  • The clock: Attacks unfold in Switzerland, Bahrain, Rome, Syria, and Israel within days of each other.
  • The stakes: A regional war, and a bombing intended to trigger what the plotters see as the End of Days.

The novel mixes close-quarters fieldcraft with White House Situation Room decisions and a parallel Italian police investigation.

End of Days Summary (Spoilers Ahead)

Spoiler warning: the following section describes the plot, key reveals, and the ending.

The book opens in Interlaken, where an Iraqi refugee named Mustafa poses as a commercial paragliding pilot and takes former Mossad director Gideon Cohen into the air. Mid-flight, Mustafa cuts the harness risers with a hook knife, and both men fall to their deaths.

A note found on the pilot claims responsibility for Keta’ib Hezbollah and warns that “the Great Satan” is next. In Israel, the head of Mossad’s Caesarea division, Jeremy, meets former operatives Aaron Bergman and Shoshana in secret.

Jeremy fears Mossad’s European infrastructure has been compromised, so he asks them to investigate off the books. Shoshana, whose mentor was Gideon, agrees on one condition: Israeli passports for Pike Logan, Jennifer Cahill, Knuckles, and Brett.

Pike and Jennifer are in Charleston, South Carolina, rehearsing their wedding ceremony while sponsoring a young Syrian refugee named Amena. Pike resists freelancing during his wedding week, but the threat to American lives changes his mind.

He briefs George Wolffe, director of the Taskforce, and secures the use of a leased corporate jet under Israeli cover. Meanwhile, End of Days reveals that Iran ordered nothing at all.

The mastermind is Garrett, callsign Splinter, an American and former Special Forces officer serving as head of security for the Knights of Malta in Rome. He commands four Croatian special forces veterans nicknamed the Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

Traumatized by the Bosnian War and later deployments, the cell follows dispensationalist end-times theology. They believe false-flag killings blamed on Iran will push the United States and Israel into war, forcing Israel to take the Temple Mount and build the Third Temple.

Garrett’s cell expands the campaign. Shin Bet official Etyan Malka is killed in Paris. The US ambassador to the Holy See dies in a car crash. US diplomat Gabrielle Hernandez is thrown from a twenty-seventh-floor balcony in Rome with an anti-American note in her mouth.

Pike’s team lands in Switzerland and tracks Qassim Khaled, a Syrian expat dentist known as the Professor, who works as a financial middleman in Zurich. Jennifer breaks into his apartment and recovers steganographic data from Apple Time Machine backups.

The decoded messages point to a money transfer and a linkup in Bahrain with a “Bosnian” operative. When the team tries to grab Qassim in a Zurich park, a cyclist shoots him in the head to silence him.

The team deploys to Manama, Bahrain, where Donatello has joined a Shia cell led by Salim Kalibani. Taskforce network engineer Creed hacks the cell’s local network and finds the target: Vice Admiral Gregory Stiles, commander of the US Fifth Fleet.

The plan is to kidnap Stiles outside an American-themed restaurant and broadcast his torture online. Diversionary bombs detonate as the terrorists seize the admiral, and Pike, Knuckles, Brett, Aaron, and Shoshana move in.

They kill the kidnapping team and rescue Stiles unharmed. Shoshana kills Donatello when he fights back.

In Rome, Italian police inspector Lia Vairo is investigating a string of strangulation murders of local prostitutes. The killer is Garrett, who suffers blackouts and violent sexual rage between operations.

Knowing Lia is closing in on his false identities, Garrett leaves a red kernmantle climbing rope at a crime scene, a reference to Rahab in the Book of Jericho, to draw her into a trap. He breaks into her flat, locks a radio-controlled explosive collar around her neck, and tries to assault her.

Creed taps Lia’s hacked Amazon Echo camera and streams live video to Pike’s team. Pike, Aaron, and Shoshana breach the apartment, disarm the collar, and pull her out. Garrett escapes down a fire escape.

Raphael and Leonardo then attack Knuckles and Brett outside the Knights of Malta headquarters with a limpet mine. Both operators survive, and Secretary of State Amanda Croft backstops their cover.

Pike’s team breaches the Knights of Malta basement office in Rome and mirrors Garrett’s hard drive. The files show Leonardo and Raphael have gone to Lebanon and Syria to buy Iranian-made Samad 3 suicide drones, while Garrett and Michelangelo have flown to Israel.

Flying over Syria in the Rock Star bird, Knuckles and Brett conduct a high-altitude HALO jump into the desert outside Daraa. They find the launch compound, kill Leonardo and Raphael, and rescue smuggler Tariq Bazzi.

One Samad 3 is already airborne. It is programmed to strike an international diplomatic gathering at Megiddo, where the Israeli prime minister, US State Department officials, and Christian leaders including the Grand Master of the Knights of Malta are assembled.

Pike alerts US and Israeli authorities, and an Israeli F-16 pilot named Avril shoots the drone out of the sky seconds before impact.

Garrett flees north toward the Lebanese border at Rosh Hanikra. Pike and Shoshana corner him in the tourist grotto tunnels beneath the border, and Garrett stabs Shoshana in the shoulder with a folding knife.

Pike restrains him, and Shoshana breaks Garrett’s neck, avenging Gideon Cohen. In Jerusalem, Michelangelo moves on the second part of the plan: a time bomb inside the Dome of the Rock.

With the compound gates locked because of Palestinian unrest, Jennifer and Aaron ambush two Israeli riot police officers in an alley, take their uniforms, and pass through security into the Al Aqsa compound.

Inside the rotunda, Jennifer finds Michelangelo’s backpack holding six shaped charges wired to a counting-down flip phone. She clears worshippers from the cavern and carries the bomb outside to Aaron.

With about ten seconds left, Aaron sprints to the plaza wall above the Western Wall and throws the backpack into the air, where it detonates harmlessly.

Back-channel talks with Iran through Lebanese contacts confirm Tehran was not behind the attacks, and the threat of war fades. Extradition paperwork from Secretary of State Croft frees Aaron and Jennifer from Israeli custody.

The team returns to Charleston, where Pike and Jennifer complete their wedding reception at Halls Chophouse with family and teammates. Knuckles quietly boards a flight back to Rome to keep a dinner date with Inspector Lia Vairo.
