Sibylline Summary: Full Story Breakdown

A prologue opens at midnight as a first-year student attempts a St. Adolphus Hall initiation by jumping between balconies to touch an angel statue atop Arches Tower. An unseen shadow drags her into the dark.
In the present, Raven Chen, Atticus Garcia, and Dorian Winthrop meet on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to open their Sibylline decision letters. All three are rejected despite their genuine gifts.
Raven proposes that they move to Vermont and take non-academic staff jobs on campus. They could reach the archives, sit in on lectures, and teach themselves spellcraft.
Atticus becomes an assistant to Professor Anna White in Mansart Hall. While inspecting scaffolding at Arches Tower, he senses a structural wrongness and finds a demonic sigil carved into a cornice.
Dorian takes a curatorial post at Old Bones under Professor Nathan Evander. When he touches a wand attributed to Hecate bare-handed, he sees a student inside a blood pentagram and hears a voice screaming the name Adelina.

Aspen takes public credit to protect her identity. He then invites the trio to the St. Adolphus Halloween Masquerade in a cemetery sepulcher, where Atticus and Dorian kiss in a quiet art studio.
Dorian’s psychometry also reveals a 1920s record: Warden Kerrigan rejected a gifted psychokinetic applicant and admitted an untalented legacy student to prevent another incident.
Arches Tower then collapses entirely. Crews pull Pippa’s body from the rubble, and Raven and Atticus notice claw marks on her chest that contradict the official story of an accident.
Professor White sends Atticus to salvage texts from the newly exposed chambers under Arches. That night the trio slips past police tape and descends into the tunnels.
They find Adelina Ward’s hidden laboratory, her diary, a lattice cage, and a human skeleton. Holding hands over the diary, they experience a shared vision of 1917.

In the vision, Adelina argues that the universe was born from chaos. She steals Hecate’s wand, sacrifices her lover Henri over a blood pentagram, and conjures the malum, which then kills her friend Mary.
Warden Kerrigan’s mages imprison Adelina in the cage and seal the malum inside the tower’s walls. The collapse of Arches has now freed the creature.
The malum attacks in the corridor and slashes Atticus across the back. The trio retreats into the cage, where Dorian absorbs Atticus’s fatal wounds into his own body through bare-handed contact.
Raven draws a fire sigil with Atticus’s blood, chants Vocare ignis, and unleashes a firestorm that repels the malum and breaks open the ceiling. Workers pull them to safety.
Warden Stone dismisses their account, calls Pippa’s death an accident, fires all three for trespassing, and bans them from campus. A magical newspaper then reports another student mauled to death.
Romantic tensions erupt at The Acroteria. Atticus reveals the kiss with Dorian, Raven reveals her own night with Atticus, and Atticus walks out into a freezing rainstorm.
Dorian finds donor records showing that Warden Stone personally donated Hecate’s wand, a snake ring, and a beetle necklace to Old Bones. He brings the discovery to Raven and confesses his love for her.
Atticus is lured to Mansart Hall by a letter from Professor White, who locks him in a back room. Reading her thoughts, he learns she caused the collapse to free the malum and drain magic from students.
White summons the malum and Atticus sends a psychic distress call to Raven and Dorian. Guided by a black cat, they follow blood and visions into the tunnels beneath Arches.
During a fundraising gala at Old Bones, the malum attacks the museum while Warden Stone fights it with offensive spells. Dorian smashes a display case and takes Hecate’s wand.
Aspen opens a hidden passage behind a painting and gives Raven spell-lights to navigate the tunnels. They find White in a trance and Atticus chained inside the lattice cage.
Adelina’s spirit has taken control of Atticus’s body. Atticus briefly regains speech and tells Dorian to destroy the skull that tethers her, and Dorian crushes it on the floor.
Raven reads a reverse-invocation spell in Latin while Dorian holds Atticus’s hand and Raven grips Dorian’s. Their combined magic surges, and White is consumed by her own spell in a case of telepyrosis.
Adelina is banished, but Atticus lies lifeless. Dorian and Raven merge their life force into his chest, turning both of their hair stark white, and he revives.
Warden Stone meets them outside. He admits Sibylline restricted psychics out of fear of another Adelina, and that he allowed their employment hoping their gifts would expose the saboteur. He grants all three full admission.
As they walk into the dawn, a whisper echoes in Raven’s mind telling her to keep a secret. It hints at what awaits in the second book.
