Full Story Summary: The Road to Callandor

After the battle at Falme, the world sinks deeper into political and supernatural chaos.
Pedron Niall, the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light, receives a report from Jaret Byar about Geofram Bornhald’s death and the One Power used by Tar Valon witches. Niall plans to let a false Dragon spread panic so he can later unite humanity under the Whitecloaks.
Niall’s advisor Ordeith, also known as Padan Fain, keeps a deep hatred for Rand al’Thor, Perrin Aybara, and Mat Cauthon. In Amador, a Myrddraal delivers an ultimatum to the secret Darkfriend Jaichim Carridin.
He must find and kill Rand al’Thor within a month or his family will die.
In the Mountains of Mist, Perrin waits with Min, Loial, and Shienaran soldiers under Moiraine’s watch. A woman named Leya brings news of spreading civil war.
That night, Trollocs and a Myrddraal attack the camp. Perrin enters a feral state as Young Bull and kills the Myrddraal, but Leya is killed.
Rand al’Thor isolates himself because of the fear and awe he inspires. Haunted by the taint on saidin and dreams of a crystal sword, he flees alone toward Tear. Moiraine, Lan, Perrin, and Loial pursue him.
Zarine “Faile” Bashere joins their party.
Rand’s ta’veren nature causes wild chance events in the towns he passes. In Jarra, sudden weddings occur. Elsewhere, blood feuds erupt, wells dry up, or buried treasure is found.

Egwene al’Vere, Nynaeve al’Meara, and Elayne Trakand travel to Tar Valon with Verin Mathwin and the dying Mat Cauthon. The White Tower heals Mat of his bond to the cursed dagger from Shadar Logoth.
The women are punished with kitchen labor, but Siuan Sanche secretly tasks them with hunting the Black Ajah.
The Black Ajah sisters led by Liandrin have murdered people and stolen ter’angreal. Egwene receives a ring-shaped ter’angreal linked to Tel’aran’rhiod. After finding a Gray Man’s corpse, the women search the library vaults and uncover clues pointing to Tear.
Mat recovers quickly and wins a quarterstaff duel against Gawyn and Galad. He leaves Tar Valon with Thom Merrilin using a paper of authority from the Amyrlin Seat.
In Aringill, Mat rescues the Illuminator Aludra and receives fireworks. In Caemlyn, he overhears Lord Gaebril, actually the Forsaken Rahvin, order the death of Elayne, Nynaeve, and Egwene.
Mat and Thom race down the River Erinin toward Tear.
The women also travel toward Tear and meet Aiel Maidens of the Spear. River brigands capture them, but Aiel warriors led by Rhuarc rescue them.
In Tear, the women shelter with Mother Guenna and hire the thief-catcher Juilin Sandar. Juilin is captured and coerced by the Black Ajah. The Black Ajah then ambushes the house and locks the women inside the Stone of Tear as bait for Rand.
Perrin, Loial, and Faile reach Tear after fleeing Sammael’s rule in Illian. Moiraine and Lan discover that Be’lal rules Tear as High Lord Samon.
A hedgehog ter’angreal traps Faile’s soul in Tel’aran’rhiod. Perrin enters the dream world with Hopper to break the trap.
Mat reaches Tear, learns where the women are, and coordinates with Juilin Sandar and Aiel warriors. He climbs the Stone’s outer walls and uses Aludra’s fireworks to blast open the defenses. During the battle, he reaches the dungeons and frees Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne.
Rand enters the Heart of the Stone to claim Callandor. Be’lal attacks him, but Moiraine kills Be’lal with balefire. Ba’alzamon descends and knocks Moiraine aside.
Rand seizes Callandor, chases Ba’alzamon through dreamscapes, and plunges the sword into his chest.
Rand returns to the physical chamber.

Perrin, Min, Loial, and Shienaran soldiers wait in the Mountains of Mist while Rand wrestles with his destiny and the taint on saidin. A Trolloc ambush forces Perrin into a feral wolf-battle, and Leya is killed.
Rand flees, triggering a pursuit through villages marked by his ta’veren ripples. In Amador, Whitecloak leaders plot to use the chaos of false Dragons while a Myrddraal orders the Darkfriend Jaichim Carridin to hunt Rand.
