Layers of Guilt and Deception
These are the central ideas that drive the plot and character actions.
| Theme | How the book presents it |
|---|---|

| Consequences of Deception | The group maintains a fabricated story about the crash. Oliver hides Ian’s death. Joshua hides his affair. These secrets create a fragile alliance that is easily broken by Russell’s plot. |
| Retribution | Russell Poranto’s entire relationship with Cassidy is a lie. He uses her to steal her journals and uncover the truth. His goal is to force a confession and make the survivors pay for Clara’s death. |
| Illusion of Safety | The beach house is supposed to be a safe haven. It is breached by hidden cameras and threats. The storm traps the characters, turning their refuge into a prison. |
