The Road of Bones Summary: A Dark Fantasy of Betrayal and Forbidden Magic

In the kingdom of Íseldur, seventeen years after King Ivar Ironheart seized the throne, magic users called Galdra are executed in public Lettings.
Silla Nordvig lives quietly as a kitchen hand in Skarstad under the protection of Matthias, the man she believes is her father.
After a solar eclipse and a brutal execution, Matthias insists they flee north to Kopa. On the road, black-clad warriors ambush them and call Matthias “Tómas.”
Matthias fights with lethal skill but is mortally wounded. Before he dies, he gives Silla a letter addressed to Skeggagrim in Kopa and tells her he is not her biological father.
Silla survives the Twisted Pinewoods alone and is briefly cornered by the Battle Thorns warband. A giant grimwolf appears, giving her a chance to escape to Reykfjord.
