Warning: This section reveals every major twist and the ending.

Eleven years before the main story, a sleepover at the Nelson farmhouse ended in slaughter. Brandon, Kayla, and Chelsea were stabbed to death. Brooke survived a strangulation attempt.

Tim was found wounded. Brooke identified Shane as the attacker, sending him to prison for life.

In the present, Brooke moves into her late parents’ home with her son, Josh. She accepts a nursing job at Raker Maximum Security Penitentiary, knowing Shane is incarcerated there.

Her first direct encounter with him occurs in the prison clinic. He immediately claims he was wrongly convicted and warns her that Tim is dangerous.

Brooke reconnects with Tim, now an assistant principal at the local school. They begin a romantic relationship. Tension builds when a woman named Kelli Underwood vanishes.

Brooke learns Tim had a secret connection to her.

Suspicions push Brooke to search Tim’s basement. She discovers a body wrapped in a tarp.

Tim is arrested. Convinced she sent an innocent man to prison, Brooke recants her original testimony. Shane is exonerated and released.

He moves into her home, playing the role of a reformed man and a father figure to Josh.

The foundation cracks when Brooke realizes the truth about Margie, the elderly babysitter she hired.

Margie is Pamela Nelson, Shane’s mother. Pamela confesses everything during a confrontation. She murdered Brooke’s parents years ago. She killed Kelli Underwood and framed Tim.

The original farmhouse massacre was revenge. Brooke’s father had an affair with Pamela and refused to abandon his family for her. Pamela and Shane decided to destroy what he loved most.

At the farmhouse, Pamela attacks Brooke. A struggle ends with Pamela shot.

Shane chases Josh into the woods, intending to eliminate the final loose end. But Josh is not defenseless.

Tim had warned him months earlier that Shane was a threat.

When Shane closes in, Josh uses a heavy icicle and his baseball swing to strike Shane repeatedly in the head.

Shane dies.

Tim is cleared of all charges. He reunites with Brooke and Josh, the three of them scarred but alive.
