Wild Wicked Mate Summary: Cozy Shifter Romance
TL;DR: A Dryad and a Wolf on the Road
Theo is the exiled youngest son of a former werewolf Alpha; Phoebe is an oak dryad who has been his best friend for a decade.
They have a friends-with-benefits arrangement designed to keep their real feelings buried.
When local seer Lena Bellerose disappears, Phoebe agrees to search for her up north with Theo — but she is secretly stalling him so his brother Knox can close a land deal that protects the forest.
Forced proximity does the rest.
One motel bed, a rogue wolf at a frozen waterfall, and a confession Phoebe cannot undo lead to a rupture.
Both characters then fall ill with soul-sickness, and a family secret about Phoebe’s father changes what her future can look like.

Wild Wicked Mate Summary: What Happens in the Story
Spoilers ahead for the full plot, including the ending.
Ten years before the novel opens, eighteen-year-old Theo finds Phoebe’s hidden treehouse in the woods.
The two hit it off immediately and settle on a rule: friends, nothing more. Nymphs are understood to be transient beings who never settle or tie their lives to anyone, while wolves build their whole existence around a pack.
A year before the main story, a bloodied Theo collapses into Phoebe’s bed after a violent fight with his brother Rafe. In his sleep he calls her “My Mate” and “Mine.” By morning he has taken it all back.
Overwhelmed by exile and family damage, he tells Phoebe he cannot love her. She guards her heart and stays his friend.
In the present, Lena Bellerose disappears and Maple Hollow organizes search parties at the local bar. Theo reluctantly agrees to drive Phoebe to Grimm’s Cottages, a resort up north where Lena’s aunt used to take her.
Before they leave, Phoebe visits her Aunt Gert at the diner. Gert reveals that Knox, the new Alpha and Theo’s oldest brother, already has Lena and is using her seer abilities to negotiate the purchase of forest land from developers. Gert asks Phoebe to stall Theo so Knox can finish the deal. Phoebe agrees.
The drive north becomes a string of bathroom breaks, snacks, wrong turns, and games of Truth or Dare. At a budget motel, the two share a single bed and struggle against a decade of suppressed attraction.
Near the resort, they check a frozen waterfall and meet a golden-eyed black wolf from the rival Highland pack. Theo shifts and tackles the intruder, growling “You are mine.” Phoebe is shaken by the violence; Theo is swallowed by possessive instinct. Back at their cabin, an argument turns into intimacy.
Guilt keeps building in Phoebe. They continue to the werewolf pack lands, where Theo reunites with Ryder, Silas, Felix, and his mother Nell. Then Knox arrives nearby with Lena, and publicly thanks Phoebe for the “distraction” of keeping Theo busy.

Humiliated, Theo realizes he was led around for a week. He believes Phoebe chose Knox over him and used their intimacy as a tactic. He rejects the mate bond outright, says they have nothing left, and walks into the woods.
Separated, both fall ill with soul-sickness, the physical wasting that comes from denying a true mate bond. Phoebe lies near death in her treehouse and cannot keep food down.
Her mother Runa returns with a hidden truth: Phoebe’s absent father was partly werewolf. Phoebe inherited werewolf genetics, which means she can have a fated mate, and her soul is tied to Theo rather than only to her grove.
After speaking with townsfolk and Rafe, a weakened Theo goes to the grove. He confronts the dryads and Runa, declares his love for Phoebe, and sits by her bed through the night until she recovers. When she wakes, the two speak with total honesty and accept the bond.
Healthy and united, they return to Maple Hollow. At Gert’s Diner, locals Sal and Dolores confront Theo and Rafe and announce they have worked out that the brothers turn into wolves. The townspeople do not panic. They demand to join forces against the rogue Highland wolves.
Surrounded by Phoebe, Rafe, Knox, their partners, witches, dryads, and willing humans, Theo sees that he has found a new kind of pack. Phoebe names it out loud: they may have accidentally formed one.
