Escape Me Summary: The Full Story

The novel opens in the aftermath of a failed warehouse ambush. James Anderson, Kenji Kishimoto, Nazeera Ibrahim, and Winston gather in Nazeera’s bare, unfurnished house, running on almost no sleep.
James’s pager is hacked and floods with threatening messages from anonymous citizens. Adam Kent arrives with his wife Alia and their children, bringing breakfast and a brief pause in the tension.
Then Nazeera shares Warner’s order for a leadership briefing. She also repeats a rumor: Rosabelle is negotiating for Sebastian Rivers’s release so she can return to Ark Island and marry him.
James refuses to believe it. He understands that Rosabelle is pushing him away on purpose, and that she has decided to die on her own terms.
Rosabelle is already at the rehabilitation facility, sitting across from Sebastian in a private cell. He demands to know why she screamed James’s name during the raid. She answers by letting him break her jaw.
The beating is a performance for Sebastian and for Klaus, who watches through Sebastian’s connection to the synthetic network. Rosabelle intends to use a public wedding as cover, drink a vial of earth, and destroy Klaus’s mind from inside.

At the rehabilitation facility, Aya, Jing, and Elias treat Rosabelle’s facial fractures. They tell her that Leon did not die by her hand ā his body detonated remotely through an internal kill-switch triggered by Klaus.
Warner arrives to hear the same finding. Meanwhile, James goes into New Capital City to buy clothes for Rosabelle and ends up swarmed by citizens after footage of his solo Ark mission leaks.
Kenji pages him with a new rank: Captain, and a team to lead against an enemy arms depot.
Rosabelle warns Warner that Klaus is preparing an undetectable continent-wide attack meant to erase preternatural abilities and edit human DNA. She demands to be returned to Sebastian. Warner refuses.
James arrives outside Nazeera’s house shouting to be let in. Before the argument resolves, a silent shockwave strikes campus.
The outer electromagnetic shield absorbs most of the impact, but the blast shatters the front windows. Rosabelle is thrown across the room with a pane of glass lodged in her throat.
James pulls the glass free and channels healing energy into her, saving her life at the cost of pushing her into a deep sleep. Across campus, Juliette’s contractions accelerate.
