Kashton Landon Pierce is raised to become a Spade brother, the executioner arm of the Lords. His initiation requires loyalty, devotion, and sacrifice.

During a mission on a yacht called the Isabella, he kills a man who intended to rape a young woman named Everett Sinclair. Kashton becomes obsessed with her and searches for six years.

Eve Sinclair is a Founder and a survivor of the Dollhouse, a human trafficking operation that conditions women as sex slaves and breeders. She was trained and abused by her half-brother Evan.

Later she works as an assassin for Adam, Kashton’s brother, who faked his death to go undercover against trafficking rings.

Kashton finds Eve at a cathedral, where she is sewing up a tortured Lord after a confessional. He begins stalking her and uncovers her killings at a local motel.

He uses his power as a Spade brother to propose a hide-and-seek game: if he finds her, she must belong to him for forty-eight hours. During that time, he uses intense BDSM and sensory deprivation to redirect her trauma responses toward him.

Family secrets surface. Eve is revealed to be the biological daughter of Bill Marks and the half-sister of Spade brother Haidyn. Haidyn unknowingly saved Eve during his own initiation.
