Queen of Faces Summary: The Full Story (Major Spoilers)

A Dying Maid and a Desperate Heist
The story is set in Elmidde, capital of the nation Caimor, built on the slopes of Mount Elwar.
Flooded Lowtown slums sit at the base, merchant Midtown in the middle, and marble Hightown near the peak, with Paragon Runic Academy floating on islands above it all.
For fifty years the Eight Oceans have risen without explanation. Millennia earlier, the empire of the Star Prophets drowned, and the stars vanished from the sky.
In this world, consciousness — called a Pith — can be moved into synthetic bodies called chassis, from cheap “Edgar” models to ageless star-woven forms.
Ana Gage works as a maid for Clementine, a Lowtown mercenary. A childhood accident left her with a terminal brain infection, and her failing Edgar chassis gives her less than a year to live. Her rejection letter from Paragon arrives.
At Clementine’s dinner party, Ana uses her illusion Codex, Rainbow Veil, to conjure fake maggots.
Clementine counters with a Whisper mind-control spell that forces Ana to cut off her own hair and jump thirty feet into the ocean. Ana survives, steals Clementine’s mission folder, and hides in a shipping crate aboard the cargo vessel Endeavour.
Inside the crate are four fabricated bodies and one ageless star-woven female chassis with star-speckled eyes. Ana transfers her Pith into it and experiences health for the first time in years.
Fleeing the docks, she runs into two Paragon students, Nell Ebbridge and Samuel Pakhem; her illusions cause Samuel’s wire magic to sever Nell’s hand, and Ana shoots Samuel in the thigh before escaping.
Headmaster Nicholas Carriwitch, 140 years old, hunts her down on a ruined railway bridge and blasts a hole through the stolen body.
He forces her back into the dying Edgar. Carriwitch then reveals that Khaiovhe, the “Black Wraith” of the Shenti War, is alive and leading Commonplace, a terrorist faction determined to destroy Paragon and redistribute magic.
He recruits Ana as an illegal mercenary — a “witch of the coin” — to infiltrate Commonplace and hunt Khaiovhe.
In exchange, he installs her at Paragon under the false identity “David Chapman,” a non-magical Grey Coat assistant, with a promised path to admission and a healthy body.
Two Mercenaries, One Target
A parallel thread explains Ana’s new partner. Lady Nell Ebbridge lost an Ousting duel to Ori, a prodigy her mother recruited to replace her.
Stripped of her noble name and memory-wiped, Nell was placed in a leftover male star-woven body as “#516-R.” She renamed herself Wes, wielded the paper-sharpening Codex Folding Edge, and joined Carriwitch’s hunt for Khaiovhe in exchange for a chance to reclaim her identity.
Carriwitch pairs them as mercenary squad Queen Sulphur. At Paragon, Ana is assigned to Adam Weaver, the famous “Son of Destiny” who once saved her from drowning.
Weaver proves to be an abusive narcissist who burns off Ana’s left pinky with Palefire magic after she fails a math quiz.

Her friend Kaplen Ingolf teaches her that “magic is the art of changing yourself.” That epiphany unlocks the second branch of Rainbow Veil, adding sound and multi-sensory depth, and frees Ana from Carriwitch’s mind control.
Queen Sulphur’s missions turn deadly. On a luxury yacht, former spy Lyna Wethers mind-hijacks Kaplen with her Honeypot Codex; he later steals Ana’s toxic Kraken’s Bone pills and dies by suicide.
Ana and Wes recruit Nima Qasemi, a mercenary who lives in two bodies at once, and Korin Nameless, an elderly Shenti bombmaker in his grandmother’s body, who reveals that Khaiovhe commissioned a submarine to cut through arctic ice toward an ancient weapon.
The Siege and the Truth
Wes discovers that Ana is David Chapman — the thief behind her Ousting — and attacks her in their clock tower loft. Ana anticipates the strike with Rainbow Veil and spares her partner’s life.
An anonymous letter, sent by Clementine on Khaiovhe’s orders, then exposes Ana’s double identity to Admiral Ebbridge and the Eldritch Guard.
Khaiovhe lures the Guard into a trap at Brenby Fish Market and besieges Paragon itself, sealing the school under a dome of Darkfire and summoning an armored storm kraken against Caimor’s Home Fleet.
During the battle, Ana uncovers the central deception: “Adam Weaver” is actually 78-year-old Professor Tybalt Ebbridge, Nell’s father, who faked his death, stole an orphan boy’s body, and blew up the dam of Ana’s childhood to stage his own heroism.
In the climax, Khaiovhe traps Ana inside Westyn’s Throne, a pocket dimension, and forces a body swap to claim Ana’s star-woven chassis.
Ana has already swallowed her entire supply of poisonous Kraken’s Bone pills. Once the transfer completes, Khaiovhe chokes to death inside the poisoned Edgar while Ana survives in Khaiovhe’s healthy body.
Wes faces Ori in an Ousting rematch at the Everautumn tree. Instead of fighting, Nell reveals that Khaiovhe stole the Aeon Scroll — the cure for Ori’s comatose sister.
Ori leaps from the platform, giving Nell the win by default and her name back; learning her father now rules as the “Pale King,” she feigns loyalty while plotting his destruction.
Queen of Faces closes with Ana cured, commanding Commonplace’s remaining resources under Khaiovhe’s identity, and vowing to rescue Korin, dismantle Adam Weaver’s reign, and unlock the Aeon Scroll.
The “next page” is left unwritten for the sequel.
