During magic lessons, Lanson offers to bond with Huntyr for the final trial, the Transcendent, and she confides that she is a trained assassin.

Wolf then takes her to the ruined city of Khaer and forces her to slaughter swarming vampyres until her killer instincts return.

Everything shifts when Espek, Ryder’s ally, accuses Huntyr of murder and attacks her in the courtyard.

Huntyr cannot bring herself to kill him. Later, when his bloodlust overwhelms him, she willingly lets him feed from her.

The Transcendent begins when mentors force all recruits to drink a potion that knocks them unconscious. They awaken in a burning, hallucination-filled forest overrun by vampyres and beasts.

Ashlani is fatally stabbed and dies as the flames spread. When a monstrous attack leaves Wolf severely wounded, Huntyr initiates an ancient blood-magic ritual, reciting Arte magica coniuncta to permanently fuse their minds, magic, and emotions.

Near the pristine white wall of the Golden City, a crazed Lanson attacks with fire magic and burns Wolf’s wings, grounding him.

Surrounded by vampyres, Huntyr unleashes an explosive wave of blood magic fire that obliterates the horde.

The effort drains Wolf completely, leaving him pulseless in the ash. Mortally wounded, Huntyr collapses onto his chest and dies beside him.

In the void of death, Huntyr meets Era, the Goddess of Vaehatis. Asked why she sacrificed herself for a half-vampyre, Huntyr admits she loves Wolf. Era deems her heart pure and restores them both to life.

They awaken on the other side of the wall, inside the Golden City, and find it is no paradise. The fabled sanctuary is a ruined, filthy, vampyre-infested wasteland resembling Midgrave.

After taking shelter in an abandoned estate, three celestial angels led by an enforcer named Luseyar break in and arrest them.

In an underground throne room sits Asmodeus, the Archangel of the Goddess, and Wolf’s biological father. He reveals the book’s final twist: Huntyr is Huntyraina Fullmall Gawerula, daughter of Queen Claudia and the true heir to the vampyre throne.

He demands she use her blood magic to help him conquer and rebuild the Scarlata Empire.

When she refuses, Luseyar presses a goddess-forged sword against Wolf’s back and begins slicing off his black wings as Huntyr screams, ending the novel on a cliffhanger.
