A Kingdom This Cursed and Empty by Stacia Stark opens with Prisca, Lorian, and Demos having just freed hundreds of hybrids from King Regner’s castle. They escape the capital city of Lesdryn by sea.
During the voyage, Prisca remains deeply hurt and distrustful of Lorian because she has learned he is a high fae prince.
Their ship is soon intercepted by the Gromalian fleet. Prisca uses her time-manipulation magic to freeze the scene and negotiate with Daharak Rostamir.
She makes a blood vow with the pirate queen, trading a future favor for safe passage through dangerous waters.
After landing, Prisca and Lorian are ambushed by Regner’s iron guards. Prisca is shot with a bolt containing fae iron that suppresses her magic. Lorian is hit with multiple arrows.
To survive, Prisca pushes the arrow through her own flesh and re-engages her powers to help kill the attackers.

Upon reaching Lyrinore, Prisca faces a monstrous creature called a Drakoryx. The beast judges her worthy and names itself Vynthar, joining her quest.
The hybrid elders refuse to support Prisca, revealing that her cousin Zathrian has been claiming her throne. As they leave the island, iron guards attack, and Rythos’s friend Fendrel is killed.

Defeated, the group returns to Gromalia. They meet Thol, a tracker from Prisca’s home village, who reveals that Regner slaughtered everyone there in retaliation.
