Six years before the main story, Aurelie Chantelune’s mother, Myrah, was killed in the royal archives by Gluttony, one of the Original Sins, while protecting Aurelie and her brother Orion.
The event shapes Aurelie’s determination to become a knight.
The story opens as prideborn and envyborn demons break through Rhovar’s defenses. Captain Varen Chantelune and his bonded angel Azriel fight through burning streets.
With her aging father weakened by battle injuries, Aurelie wants her first kill before it is too late.
She pursues a lithe envyborn scout named Lute into the forest and subdues her. But Lute is soulbound to a human, meaning her death would instantly kill her partner. Aurelie hesitates, shoves Lute into the river, and cuts off her barbed tail instead.
She returns to Rhovar and presents the tail to King Edric and her father as proof of a first kill, hiding her failure. The lie works. Aurelie is granted a bonding ceremony at La Bastille Lumière, where she is paired with Yuriel, an austere Soldier angel from Sanctuary.
During the ceremony, as their hands are bound and cut, Captain Varen collapses. His flesh stretches and black wings tear through his armor as he becomes a gray-skinned hybrid demon.
He attacks Princess Ilaria Noriclat, scarring her face, and maims several guards, severing the sword hand of knight Nicolas Beaumont, before being subdued and chained in the dungeon.
Desperate to understand the mutation, Aurelie sneaks into the royal archives and confronts Severin Sinclair, a scholar she finds intoxicating.
Severin reveals himself as a disguised demon lord and the owner of the wine guild Vinum Vita Miraculum, then abducts her to the hidden village of Veritas.
There he explains that Varen did not fall to sin. He was poisoned by a catalytic wine Severin brewed. Severin claims he is secretly developing an alchemical cure that reverses demon transformation, but he needs angel blood and access to the remains of Fallen Angels.

Yuriel tracks Aurelie through their bond. The three of them, plus a white vesper named Vexara, travel into uncharted woods toward an ancient barrier guarding the severed wings of Fallen Angels.

Severin retreats with the Fallen Angel wings and completes the cure vial. He also betrays Aurelie. His wine guild has already distributed the catalytic wine across all of Rhovar, designed to turn anyone who drinks it into a hybrid demon.
The group returns to Rhovar during Princess Ilaria’s forced political wedding to Prince Asterion of Frienen. Severin exposes the plot as King Edric raises a toast. Horror spreads through the banquet hall.
Yuriel arrives with the chained Varen, and they administer the cure. Varen’s wings burn to ash, his fangs retract, and he is restored to humanity.
Chaos erupts when King Edric, having drunk the wine, begins mutating and is shot through the head with a Glory arrow by an angel.
Commander Xadriel and his battalion of Soldier angels descend from heaven to purge the city. Rather than let the angels slaughter her people, Aurelie takes up her mother’s lyre and draws on Severin’s music-based wrath magic.
She plays a commanding melody that unites the newly transformed Rhovarian citizens into a defensive army. Recognizing the cruelty of Xadriel’s doctrine, Yuriel turns his bow on his own commander and fights beside Aurelie and Sabriel.
Xadriel gravely wounds Severin, but Yuriel and Azriel pool their magic to heal him. Overwhelmed by the joint human and demon resistance, Xadriel’s forces retreat.
In the aftermath, Rhovar is fundamentally changed. King Edric is dead, Queen Sybil and many nobles have become demons, and Prince Asterion flees across the sea with Ilaria.
Varen is human again, and Aurelie, Yuriel, and Severin stand in the ruins of the cathedral, bound together across race and dogma in a realm where the line between divine virtue and demonic corruption has broken for good.
