Burning Daylight Summary: The Full Story

Thirteen years before the main story, a young Juliette Calloway overhears household gossip about the hostility between Marcus Montgomery and Craig Calloway, and about the mysterious death of Marcus’s wife, Eleanor Voltaire.
Meanwhile, Roman Montgomery grows up in hiding with his sister Brooklynn and their drug-addicted mother, Heather Argent, after an eight-year-old car crash forced them into fake names in California.
While attending college in California, Juliette wanders near Upside Down Rock and nearly slips off the edge. A tattooed stranger saves her and introduces himself only as “Ryder Speare.”
They meet again at an art gallery and a coffee shop, and the attraction builds.
Juliette’s parents, Craig and Martha, force her to skip her graduation and return to Rosebrook Falls for political fundraisers.
At the same time, the dying Marcus Montgomery summons Roman home to name him heir, and Roman agrees only to secure health insurance and trust funds for Brooklynn.
At a Calloway estate fundraiser, Montgomery allies crash the gates and Roman steps out of the shadows. Juliette realizes that “Ryder” is Roman Montgomery, her family’s sworn enemy. That night he climbs onto her balcony, and their mutual attraction overrides the family hostility.
Marcus pressures Roman to paint damning murals across town exposing Calloway corruption. The murals appear at The Round Table Tavern, City Hall, and the mayor’s office, triggering media frenzy and student protests at Verona University.
Craig and Martha, meanwhile, push Juliette back toward her ex-boyfriend Preston Ascott.
Roman and Juliette keep meeting in secret at Upside Down Rock and an abandoned garage, admitting their feelings for each other.
Juliette also uncovers unsettling truths about her own family, including her cousin Tyler’s rage and her brother Lance’s underground dealings in HillPoint.
At the Verona University Founders’ Gala, attorney Frederick Lawrence shows his true colors. A confrontation erupts outside the ballroom between Tyler, Lance, Benjamin, Merrick, and Roman, and Tyler draws a gun.
Merrick is shot in the struggle, then Frederick takes the weapon, shoots Tyler, frames Roman, and reveals that Marcus Montgomery is already dead.
Roman flees and sneaks into Juliette’s room to warn her. Beverly, the family nanny, tells Juliette that Marcus is dead and that Roman is accused of murder, but the woman escorting Juliette drugs her and takes her to Upside Down Rock.
Roman arrives to find Juliette bound and unconscious.
Frederick appears with Heather Argent and reveals he is the half-brother of Eleanor Voltaire, and that he has spent years plotting revenge against both families.
Heather helped him out of bitterness toward Marcus and deliberately mismanaged Brooklynn’s medication to lure Roman home. Before Frederick can shoot, Lance Calloway and Benjamin Voltaire arrive; Lance kills Frederick, and Benjamin takes the fall to protect him.
Juliette wakes in her bedroom surrounded by Roman, her brothers, and Felicity. The Rosebrook Rag exposes Frederick’s plot and clears Roman’s name. Beverly is revealed as an operative named Cassandra Troy who has fled, Heather remains at large, Merrick survives his wounds, and Tyler recovers in the hospital.
Two months later, at Marcus Montgomery’s funeral and a gathering at The Round Table Tavern, a fragile peace takes hold.
Roman takes over the Montgomery estate and Paxton takes over Calloway Enterprises, with the two agreeing to lead Rosebrook Falls together. Roman and Juliette live openly in HillPoint, together.
