Flirting with Murder Summary (Spoilers Ahead)
Spoiler warning: the following section covers the plot, the culprit, and the ending.
Virginia Tillis lands in Florida and meets Felix Gutierrez at baggage claim, where the two trade insults within minutes. Sofia drives them to Castle Claude, the pink complex founded by the late producer Claude.
The residents have gathered for the reading of Claude’s will. Lawyer Mervyn Preszler distributes theatrical bequests, including a costume cocktail ring for Virginia and a velvet smoking jacket for Felix.
Claude leaves his penthouse to his estranged sister, Berniece. Bernie arrives with her nephew, Bradley Ryan Odell, and announces plans to overhaul the property.
Claude’s final gift is a custom script for the residents’ recurring murder-mystery game, titled “Who Killed Eustace?” Virginia plays Katya, a secret agent posing as a chocolate maker, and Felix plays Jarvis Whipplesmith.
Midway through the game, the pair finds Bradley Odell dead beneath the pool table. He is not acting.

Detective Ortiz takes over the scene. Bradley had severe allergies, and his EpiPen is missing at first.
The EpiPen turns up in the garden, directly beneath Grandma Lainey’s balcony. Ortiz brings Lainey in for questioning.
Virginia and Felix decide to investigate on their own. Using Virginia’s master key, they slip into Bernie’s penthouse while she is out.
Inside a desk calendar marked “ME,” they find blueprints from Odell Property Development to demolish Castle Claude and build a beige luxury retirement complex.
The teens pose as students doing a career interview and visit Mr. Odell at his office. He explains that Bradley had originally pitched “BRO Town,” a fraternity-style condo concept.
After Bradley’s death, the firm switched to Bernie’s “Manor Estates” plan instead.
Toxicology results change the case. Bradley was poisoned with colchicine and gloriosine, compounds derived from the flame lily, also called tiger claw.
Further interviews turn up smaller clues. Malia admits she stole Bernie’s tumbler out of petty revenge, and Mr. Namura recalls that Claude once kept a toxic plant garden that Mervyn ordered removed years earlier.
Virginia and Felix inspect the large portrait of Claude in the dining room. They discover a listening closet behind the wall, with the painted eyes acting as a peephole.
They arrange a sting. Mervyn holds a private meeting with Bernie in the dining room while Virginia, Felix, Lainey, and the other residents listen from behind the wall.
Bernie admits that on the morning of his death, Bradley came to her apartment and drank Crystal Light from her tumbler. He then followed her into the billiards room and began choking.
Mervyn then confesses. He placed the tiger claw poison in Bernie’s tumbler himself, intending only to hospitalize her.
His goal was to make Bernie miss the three-month residence requirement in Claude’s will, forfeiting the penthouse and protecting Castle Claude. He never expected Bradley to drink from the cup.
Detective Ortiz arrives, and Mervyn formally confesses to the police.
Then an autopsy update delivers the final twist. Bradley did not die from the poison at all.
He died of acute anaphylactic shock from cat dander, after sitting on Bernie’s sofa where Claude’s Himalayan cat, Zenobia, regularly napped.
The poison would eventually have been fatal, but the allergy killed him first. Because his poison was not the actual cause of death, Mervyn’s charges are substantially reduced.
Bernie is then caught trying to remove and sell Claude’s art collection, violating the terms of the bequest and voiding her claim to the penthouse. She flees the building in disgrace.
The penthouse is repurposed as headquarters for Sofia and her sisters.
With Castle Claude saved, Virginia and Felix take a late-night swim in the courtyard pool. They drop their competitive guards, admit their feelings, and seal the relationship with a kiss and a splash.
