Faking Cinderella Summary: An Heiress in Disguise Romcom

TL;DR: Faking Cinderella: A Heiress, a Housekeeper, and a Town Full of Secrets

A billionaire marketing executive packs a mop and a fake name. Her goal is simple on paper: slip into a Colorado mountain town, meet the three half-brothers she never knew she had, and quietly gather what she needs to bring down her father.

Faking Cinderella by Pippa Grant follows Margot Merriweather-Brown as she trades Manhattan boardrooms for housekeeping shifts at a luxury retreat. What she does not plan for is a grumpy ex-Marine already sleeping in the cabin she borrowed.

The book blends small-town comedy, secret-identity tension, and a slow-burn romance between two people hiding from their own pasts.

Faking Cinderella Summary

Spoilers ahead. This section covers the plot, including the ending.

Margot Merriweather-Brown runs marketing for Aurora Gardens, the international hotel empire her father controls. Four years before the story begins, her father disinherited her younger sister Daphne out of spite.

Margot takes a DNA test under a false name to learn whether her serial-cheating father left other children behind. The results match three identical triplets in Snaggletooth Creek, Colorado: Decker, Lucky, and Jack Sullivan.

She arranges a sabbatical and invents “Margie Johnson,” a nursing-school dropout from Des Moines. In that guise she takes a housekeeping job at the Spruce Creek retreat center and borrows the triplets’ empty mountain cabin through Lucky.

Decker does not trust the arrangement. He sends his friend Rhys O’Malley to inspect the cabin first.

Rhys arrives late at night and walks into one of Margot’s homemade booby traps. Flour and dark purple hair dye cover him before Margot knocks him down with a twelve-inch cast-iron skillet.

A call to Lucky confirms Rhys is a trusted friend, not an intruder. The two settle into an uneasy roommate arrangement in a one-bedroom cabin.

Margot bonds with her half-brothers while cleaning rooms at Spruce Creek. Lucky is warm and open, Jack is practical and steady, and Decker stays guarded.

Rhys begins investigating her on his own. He remembers her from a Hoteliers Association dinner in Manhattan, where she defended a staff member having a seizure.

He finds her real driver’s license under her bed and spots her security guard Cyril watching the property. He corners her in a retreat center broom closet with what he knows.

Rather than expose her to Decker, Rhys proposes a trade. He keeps her secret, and she endorses his new private security firm when it launches.

Time together changes the terms of the deal. They split firewood, share cinnamon-sugar popcorn, and trade jokes that turn into something warmer.

Rhys also protects her cover. When movie star Jonas Rutherford arrives at the retreat, Rhys pours dish soap into the industrial washing machines to trigger a foam explosion so Margot can leave the building unnoticed.

The secret collapses at a town dinner party hosted by Laney and Theo Monroe. Mrs. Sullivan recognizes Margot as Tobias’s daughter, and Laney confirms she is the Aurora Gardens heiress.

The triplets react with anger at the lies. Mrs. Sullivan is shaken by the return of a long-buried chapter of her past.

Margot believes she has broken the family she came to find. She also believes she has damaged Rhys’s friendship with Decker, so she returns to her Manhattan penthouse.

In New York, Margot breaks down with Daphne, Oliver, and her friend Bea. She prepares to resign from Aurora Gardens and face her father alone.

In Colorado, Lucky visits Rhys at the cabin. Rhys argues that Margot lied out of fear and a craving for unconditional family love, and that she was trying to shield the triplets from her father.

Lucky, Decker, and Jack decide she was telling the truth about what matters. They join Rhys on a private plane chartered by Theo and fly to New York.

Margot confronts her parents at a formal family dinner. She announces her resignation, condemns her father’s infidelity and her mother’s cruelty, and offers parting recommendations for the household staff.

Mid-confrontation, Rhys, Daphne, Oliver, and the three Sullivan triplets walk into the room. The triplets present DNA evidence to Tobias and demand he retire and donate $100 million to polar bear conservation.

They also threaten to go public with his scandals if he ever targets their sisters again. Tobias is forced out of the company and faces a messy divorce.

A month later, the story returns to Snaggletooth Creek. Margot and Rhys live together, and the Sullivan family and the town have fully absorbed her into their circle.
