Annie Knows Everything Summary: The Full Story

Spoilers ahead.

Annie Winstead’s week opens with a dead keycard at Taskio, the tech company that acquired her former startup, Jotter. Her best friend Carrie works in HR and reads her the layoff script.

Rather than let Annie lose her visa and her life in New York, Carrie reassigns her to an open Data Strategy role and deletes the listing. The move is technically legal and entirely improvised.

On the 24th floor, Annie meets a man in a brown hoodie and baseball cap behind two monitors. He turns out to be Connor Reid, the interim department head while Naomi Evans is on maternity leave.

Their first real conversation happens in the canteen, where Connor conducts a mock interview. Annie guesses that SQL stands for “Super Quality Leads,” and the interview collapses.

Connor sends her a technical assessment anyway. It is DinoCode, a children’s coding game built around a cartoon dinosaur named Brian, and Annie fails it badly.

Furious, she confronts Connor and pitches herself as the non-technical asset who can drive adoption of the team’s neglected reporting dashboard. He approves the transfer only if she admits he was right.

Before she can start, Annie’s mother summons her to Ontario for her sister Shannon’s second engagement party to Dan. Two years earlier, Annie exposed Dan’s affair during a toast at the first party.

The exposure caused a family explosion and a two-year estrangement from Shannon. At the second party, Annie stays composed, helps Shannon log gift cards, and learns Shannon is coming to New York.

Annie invites her for a dress-shopping weekend, hoping to talk her out of the wedding. You May Also Like: more contemporary romance summaries on URSummary.

Back at Taskio, Annie joins Connor’s small team: Ben, John, and Martin. She shields them from pointless requests, secretly plays DinoCode at night, and fixes a dashboard code error on her own.

She wagers Connor that she can integrate third-party review data within 24 hours. She loses and owes him a Sunday morning queue at Krumes, an exclusive bakery on 74th Street.

Connor shows up in line with coffee and admits he cheated, since his team had already proven that integration impossible. They buy cookies and spend the day walking the Upper West Side.

They visit a flea market at his childhood school and walk through Central Park. At the subway station, Annie kisses him impulsively, and Connor steps back, saying it “isn’t a good idea.”

She spends the next day mortified. On Monday afternoon, Connor corners her in the office music room and explains he panicked because he likes her deeply.

He kisses her and asks her on a real date, timed for after Shannon’s visit. The plan falls apart when Shannon and Dan arrive in New York four hours early.

Dan inserts himself into the sisters’ weekend. Connor rescues Annie by dragging the couple through an exhaustive tour of all 24 Taskio floors, weaponizing Dan’s own arrogance against him.

That night, the four share drinks in Brooklyn. Annie hands Shannon and Dan comedy club tickets, clearing the evening, and Connor takes her to his loft across the street.

There she discovers DinoCode figurines in his home office and learns that Connor and Ben invented the game in college and sold it. The two sleep together and spend the night in his bed.

The next morning, Annie meets Shannon at a luxury SoHo bridal boutique. Shannon picks a rigid, uncomfortable gown and abruptly moves the wedding up to December.

Annie tries to intervene, and the argument becomes a screaming match. Shannon accuses Annie of judging her life, and Annie calls her a trophy wife to a cheating husband.

Shannon declares she hates Annie and storms out. Annie returns to work on Monday in distress.

At that same moment, executive Brad ambushes Data Strategy and demands an accelerated Version 3.0 launch ahead of a possible IPO. He also reveals plans to kill Andy’s integrated template library project.

Connor tells the team the information is confidential. Annie defies him and drops hints to Andy and Alex in Product.

On Thursday, Andy uses the leak publicly at the quarterly all-hands to expose Brad’s hypocrisy. Connor realizes immediately who leaked it.

In a glass conference room, Connor confronts Annie for violating his trust. When Brad storms over, Annie takes full responsibility.

HR policy forces Carrie to fire Annie on the spot. Annie packs her desk, argues with Connor in the lobby, and hears him snap “Annie knows everything” before she leaves.

She flies back to Canada that night. In Ontario, she breaks down in Dr. Lang’s office over losing Connor.

Recognizing her own mistakes, Annie drives to Shannon’s new house and apologizes sincerely. Shannon forgives her.

The sisters eat hot dogs, drink beer, and stage a cathartic 30-second backyard duel with inflatable “Go Tigers!” cheering sticks. Shannon tells Annie to go back and fight for Connor.

Annie’s mother clears out her bedroom furniture for painting, effectively pushing her out. Annie flies back to New York.

At her apartment, she finds Carrie in a T-shirt and realizes Carrie and her roommate Sam have started dating. Encouraged by Sam, Annie borrows Carrie’s keycard and enters Taskio.

Martin and John tell her that Connor quit the company. She rushes to his Brooklyn loft and finds Ben there.

After Ben leaves, Annie confesses her love and takes responsibility for how she handled everything. Connor reveals that he and Ben both quit Taskio to launch their own software business, CAB Labs.

He tells her he loves her too and that he was waiting for her to come back. A year later, Shannon and Dan’s wedding happens, described as a “great bad wedding” with black bridesmaid dresses.

CAB Labs is thriving and preparing to launch a coding academy for adults. Back in Greenwich Village, Sam announces she is moving Carrie in and evicting Annie.

Connor takes Annie’s hand and asks her to move into his Brooklyn loft. She agrees.

“I have one goal only: humble this Connor Reid and become the greatest data strategist to ever walk the earth.”

“You have enough dorks to help you with the technical stuff already. I can focus on the rollout of your dashboard. It’s a match made in heaven.”

“Sometimes being loyal means knowing someone you love is probably making a mistake and being there for them anyway.”

“Yesterday afternoon, when you kissed me… You caught me off guard… It’s not that I don’t like you, Annie. It’s that I do.”

“Falling in love, to me, is an act of optimism. Whether you intend to or not, when you fall in love you start to imagine new possibilities for your life you hadn’t considered before.”

“Annabelle, love of my life. Will you please move in with me?”
