The novel opens in Carora, a continent still marked by the Last War and ruled by the Company.
Silver Elite by Dani Francis establishes a world where modified humans, called Mods or silverbloods, are controlled with black or red wristbands. Wren Darlington has hidden her abilities for years on a ranch in Ward Z.
Her life changes when she shoots a hybrid coyote to save a child. The shot draws Company attention to her marksmanship. Soldiers arrive at her ranch and arrest her guardian Jim, who is identified as Julian Ash, a former Uprising colonel.
Wren flees to Sanctum Point, but Uprising leaders refuse to rescue Jim. At his public execution, Wren tries to use incitement to force the firing squad to turn their guns. The mental strain snaps her control, and the soldiers shoot Jim.
