Chapterhouse Dune Summary: The Final Battle for Humanity’s Future
What Remains When the Desert Burns
The planet Dune is gone.
Rakis, the source of the spice melange and the cradle of the Fremen, has been reduced to ash by the Honored Matres, a brutal matriarchal order returned from the Scattering.
Frank Herbert’s Chapterhouse: Dune opens in this grim aftermath, setting a cold and desperate tone for the final novel in his original Dune saga.
The Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, now fugitives, have retreated to their administrative world, Chapterhouse.
Their plan is audacious: transform their lush planet into a new desert, breed sandworms, and reclaim control of the spice.

Chapterhouse: Dune Summary: The Race for Survival
Contains spoilers for the entire book.
The story begins with Darwi Odrade overseeing the birth of a Miles Teg ghola on Chapterhouse. The Bene Gesserit are racing against time.
The Honored Matres, led by the ruthless Dama, are burning a path across the old empire, destroying every Bene Gesserit stronghold they find.
On Chapterhouse, the Sisterhood begins a deliberate process of desertification. They have smuggled a single sandworm from Rakis and introduced its sandtrout to their world’s ecology.
Odrade pushes for speed, knowing that the changing climate will be disruptive but necessary for their survival.
The Honored Matres destroy Lampadas, the Sisterhood’s premier school planet. Reverend Mother Lucilla escapes, crashing on Gammu. She finds refuge with a secret community of Jews who have hidden for millennia.
To save the knowledge of Lampadas, Lucilla transfers millions of memory lives into Rebecca, a wild Reverend Mother.
Lucilla is then sold to the Honored Matres to protect the Jewish community. On Junction, her defiant debate with Dama leads to her execution. Meanwhile, Rebecca uses her new skills to evade capture and preserve the precious mental horde she now carries.
Odrade realizes direct military conflict is a losing battle. She sends Dortujla as bait, proposing a false surrender to Dama. This is a desperate ploy to create an opening.
On Chapterhouse, Odrade forces Murbella, a captive Honored Matre, to undergo the Spice Agony. Murbella survives, becoming a full Reverend Mother and a unique hybrid of the two opposing cultures.
Miles Teg’s original memories are restored by Sheeana. Awakened, he immediately takes command of the Sisterhood’s limited forces.
He develops a brilliant offensive strategy, using decoy ships with lasgun-atomic triggers to overwhelm the Honored Matre defenses.
The final confrontation takes place on Junction. Logno poisons Dama and seizes power. Murbella lands on the planet, and using her combined Honored Matre speed and Bene Gesserit control, she kills Logno and her entire council in seconds. She then unifies the two factions, declaring herself both Mother Superior and Great Honored Matre.
But this new order is not for everyone. Duncan Idaho, Sheeana, Miles Teg, Scytale, and the Jewish refugees refuse to accept it.
They escape Chapterhouse on a massive Ixian no-ship. Duncan wipes all navigation data, sending them into an uncharted universe, free from any map or predetermined fate.
They slip through the grasp of Marty and Daniel, mysterious Face Dancers who observe reality from beyond.
