NOS4A2 Summary: The Full Story With Spoilers

Spoiler warning: This section recounts the complete plot, including the ending.

As a child in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Vic McQueen discovers that riding her Raleigh Tuff Burner across a demolished covered bridge can carry her to lost objects. The trips cause severe migraines and a throbbing pain behind her left eye.

During one ride she lands in Here, Iowa, where librarian Maggie Leigh warns her about Charlie Manx. Manx uses his Wraith to drain children of their souls and house them in a mental world called Christmasland.

In Sugarcreek, Pennsylvania, a custodian named Bing Partridge answers an old Christmasland ad. Manx recruits him, and Bing uses an anesthetic gas called gingerbread smoke to help abduct children.

At seventeen, Vic runs away and rides her bicycle to Manx’s Sleigh House in Colorado. She finds a kidnapped boy, Brad McCauley, already transforming into a pale, sharp-toothed creature.

Vic escapes by climbing a laundry chute and sets the Sleigh House on fire. Lou Carmody rescues her from the highway, and the police capture Manx at a gas station after Manx burns a soldier to death.

Manx falls into a coma and ages rapidly in prison. Vic spends the next years struggling with alcoholism, drug use, and mental instability while raising her son Wayne with Lou.

In 2012, Manx’s body disappears from a Denver morgue after Bing rebuilds the Wraith’s engine. The restored car revives Manx, and he returns with Bing to find Vic.

Manx and Bing murder Vic’s dog, Hooper, and abduct Wayne from a New Hampshire lake house. The FBI, led by Tabitha Hutter, suspects Vic because of her psychiatric history.

Vic escapes custody and repairs an old Triumph motorcycle. She uses it as her new knife to reopen the Shorter Way Bridge and search for Wayne.

She travels to Here, Iowa, and finds Maggie Leigh dying from a beating by Manx. Before dying, Maggie leaves a note: “When the angels fall, the children go home.”

Vic escapes local police and rides the bridge to her father Chris McQueen’s cabin in Dover, New Hampshire. Lou joins her there, and Chris gives them sacks of explosive ANFO before a corrupt detective kills him.

Vic and Lou ride the Triumph into the Shorter Way Bridge and crash-land near the Sleigh House in Colorado. Vic handcuffs Lou to a tree and enters Christmasland alone.

Inside the inscape, she finds Wayne transforming into one of Manx’s needle-toothed children. Vic uses the ANFO to blow up the Sleighcoaster, the Ferris wheel, and the giant Christmas tree.

The explosions start an avalanche that erases Christmasland. Vic and Wayne race back into the collapsing bridge as Manx pursues them in the Wraith.

A swarm of bats distracts Manx, and the Wraith crashes through the bridge floor. Vic and Wayne emerge in Colorado, but Vic dies from a knife wound shortly after telling Wayne that “gold don’t come off.”

In the aftermath, Lou and Tabitha raise Wayne. His monstrous features fade, and he begins to heal after letting go of Christmasland’s white static.
