Mandy Jenkins arrives at Highmark Inn & Resort with her parents, Mike and Rachel, and her fifteen-year-old sister, Kelsey. She has spent the past year dealing with panic attacks and dizziness tied to Sara Ellis’s death.
Police ruled Sara’s death a firework accident. Mandy believes she killed her. Inside the cottage, she finds a duffel bag belonging to Natalie Carpenter, Kelsey’s soccer teammate and a true-crime creator behind CrimeChatWithNat.
Natalie’s notebook lists Highmark guests and staff connected to Sara’s death. Natalie and Kelsey have come to the resort to investigate whether the accident ruling was wrong.

At dinner, Sara’s mother, Charlotte Ellis, asks Mandy to give a speech at Sara’s memorial service. Later that night, Mandy reconnects with Alex, a resort lifeguard.
The previous summer, Mandy and Alex lied to police and claimed they were together all night, creating a false alibi.
On Sunday morning, the word “MURDERER” appears in red spray paint on the walkway outside the Jenkinses’ cottage. Mandy goes into the woods to check a hiding spot near the abandoned dock.
There she had buried Sara’s silver heart charm necklace the night Sara died. The hole beneath the eye-shaped rock has been dug up, and the necklace is gone.
That night, Mandy finds the necklace on her pillow. She confronts Natalie and Kelsey, and during the argument Kelsey’s betta fish bowl shatters.
Kelsey then reveals what she has hidden for a year. She followed Mandy into the woods that night and watched Mandy strike Sara in the face with a rock.
After Mandy ran, Kelsey dug up the necklace and kept it. Believing her sister was a killer, Kelsey developed sleepwalking and brought Natalie to Highmark to force a confession.
Mandy tells Kelsey and Natalie her side of the story and insists she did not murder Sara. Flashbacks then reveal the events leading to Sara’s death.
Mandy and Sara shared an intense, controlling friendship. Sara was popular and magnetic, but also manipulative and jealous, and Mandy feared being abandoned by her.
Days before her death, Sara pressured Mandy into stealing commercial fireworks from an unlocked resort storage shed.
On the night Sara died, Mandy, Sara, Sara’s brother Finn, and Alex met at the abandoned dock to drink and set off the fireworks. Finn and Alex left after arguments.
Sara and Mandy fought physically. Sara pinned Mandy down and choked her, and Mandy grabbed a sharp rock and struck Sara in the face.
Mandy scrambled away and hid beneath the wooden dock in the water. From there she saw another girl enter the clearing and argue with Sara about Finn.
The girl lit a firework rocket and launched it at Sara. It struck Sara in the neck and jaw, causing catastrophic injuries.
Mandy fled without checking on Sara, believing her own blow with the rock had killed her. Sara actually survived for hours and died of blood loss, meaning prompt medical help could have saved her.
In the present, Natalie posts a teaser video featuring Finn’s memorial speech, in which he hinted that Mandy knew more than she admitted. Natalie promises an “eyewitness account” in her next video.
Mandy tries to identify the girl who fired the rocket. She first suspects Leigh Miller, the seventeen-year-old daughter of resort owner Eric Miller, after noticing paint on Leigh’s shoes.
Leigh admits she spray-painted “MURDERER” while high to embarrass her father and stepmother, but denies involvement in Sara’s death.
A perfume clue redirects Mandy. She remembered a floral scent on Finn the day Sara died, and staff member Hannah Kennedy says she took that perfume from a wastebasket in the owner’s cottage.
The perfume belonged to Alicia Miller, Eric Miller’s thirty-one-year-old second wife. Alicia had been having a secret affair with eighteen-year-old Finn Ellis.
Sara discovered the affair, blackmailed Finn, and threatened to expose Alicia. Alicia confronted Sara in the woods and fired the rocket to silence her.
After learning Natalie was investigating, Alicia and Finn worked together to force a filmed confession from Mandy.
Alicia traps Natalie at the abandoned honeymoon cabin and stabs her in the side when Natalie tries to escape. Mandy arrives, confronts Alicia, and finds Natalie bleeding.
Alicia attacks Mandy with the knife, and Mandy fires a flare gun that Natalie had found in the Snack Shack storage. The flare ignites Alicia’s clothes.
