Kissed by the Gods Summary: The Full Story
Spoiler warning: the following section recounts the plot, including the ending.
Part I: The Grounded
Leina Haverlyn lives quietly in Selencia with her remaining family, six years after Faraengardian troops abducted her twin brother Levvi and her lover Alden during “The Collection.” When scouts threaten her younger brother Leo, her suppressed power erupts and she cuts the soldiers down with a farming scythe.
The outburst draws Skywarden Ryot of Stormriven, an elite Altor warrior bonded to the winged faravar Einarr. He subdues her and flies her west to Edessa, capital of Faraengard.
In the Synod Reckoning Hall, the four Archons and King Agis examine her with shock. Female Altor do not exist, and her abilities surfaced years later than the norm.
The Elders sentence her to the Temple of Thayana as a test of divinity or abomination. Inside, Leina is transported to Sol’vaelen, endures an agony called godsbane, and receives a gold, web-like scar on her right temple from the Goddess of War herself.
Maxim of Atherclad, a sadistic Altor master, then challenges her to the Trial of Last Blood. He attempts to strangle and assault her on the arena sand, and Leina channels divine fury, unmasks her scar before the crowd, and executes him.
Part II: The Winged
Having survived, Leina confronts King Agis and Princess Rissa publicly over Faraengard’s treatment of Selencia. Ryot volunteers to travel north during the winter and investigate her claims.
Leina must now bind herself to a master as an Altor ward, but most warriors refuse her, fearing Thayana’s mark and the attention it draws from Kheris. Ryot eventually claims her, and in the Shrine of Vanishing Light they swear the unnaming oath, joining his cast alongside Thalric, Nyrica, Caius, Faelon, Leif, and Kiernan.
Training reveals that Altor carry “Gifted” bloodline magic: telepathy, emotional shielding, and elemental affinities. Synod law forbids romantic bonds among Altor, yet the pull between Leina and Ryot grows.
On Elandors Veil they survive a Kher’zenn ambush and kiss in a cave shelter. Leina later climbs the mountain, steps through the Veil barrier, and bonds with her own faravar, Sigurd.
Part III: The Gifted and the Climax
Ryot returns from Selencia brooding and emotionally distant. Frustrated, Leina accompanies Thalric to the Crimson Feather, a decadent social hall in Edessa, where Chancellor Roran uses coercive magic on her.
Ryot arrives in a jealous rage, confronts Roran, and takes Leina away. In private he confesses his jealousy and love, and they break Synod law and become lovers.
Word then arrives that a massive Kher’zenn army is mobilizing near Aish. Leina, Ryot, Princess Rissa, and the Stormriven cast fly south to Amarune for a tribunal, where political tensions escalate when King Agis arrives.
During the council, Leina notices striking physical similarities between Agis, Ryot, Elowen, and Rissa. Under her confrontation, Agis mockingly reveals that he is Ryot’s biological father and that Ryot is a royal prince forced into the Synod.
Agis orders his guards to execute her: “Kill her… But don’t injure my son.” Ryot draws his blade against his father to protect her.
Enraged, Leina steps through the Veil and swings her scythe at the king.
A tall, hooded royal warrior blocks the strike with an adamas hammer — and the falling hood reveals Alden, her former lover believed murdered six years ago, defending the tyrant.
Caty Rogan ends the novel on that cliffhanger.

Quotes from Kissed by the Gods
“For the girls who’ve been told they’re too much. For the women who’ve been told they’re not enough. For every time you nearly gave up—and chose instead to whisper, to shout, to rage: I’m not finished.”
“The Altor are the gods’ chosen—the ones blessed at the cusp of maturity with strength beyond mortal limits. Sharper senses. Swifter reflexes. The gift to feel the hearts of others.”
“Godsbane is the price you pay for being here with me… Such delicate creatures, humans… But I don’t want you to die, daughter of Selencia, and upset all my careful planning.”
“The Trial of Last Blood is the gods’ final judgment. When mortal justice fails, the gods call for blood. The gods claim the victor as their will made flesh. There is no appeal.”
“They’ll try to make you small… Don’t let them.”
“The gods get the victory… The glory. The temples built in their names, the people singing hymns in the streets, the priests on their knees. But my sisters? My sisters get what’s left of me. Even if only I know it.”
“They made us forget with holy songs and rewritten scrolls. But memory is war. And I remember everything.”
“But fuck the gods… Fuck the Synod. Fuck the throne and the crown and the war. I don’t care about any of it… I only care about you.”
