Shadow Reaper Summary: The Full Story (With Spoilers)

Spoiler Warning: This section reveals major plot points, including the ending.

The story begins in Aravell, on Elverdine Isle, where citizens live underground to escape the deadly blackmist. Children must surrender their magic to power the Obelisks that protect the city.

Reapers are those who steal magic from children, killing them in the process.

Seventeen-year-old Viri, a top reaper hunter, is driven by a personal tragedy. Seven years prior, her parents were killed and her brother, Braedan, disappeared. She believes the elusive “Reaper Priest” is responsible.

After a successful reaper capture, Viri learns that Reeve Ashton, the Priest’s loyal servant and her childhood friend, has been captured. She visits him in prison. Reeve offers her a bargain: his freedom in exchange for the location of the Reaper Priest. This begins their dangerous alliance.

While on desk duty as punishment, Viri discovers a pattern of thirty-two missing children reports being ignored. Her guardian, Magistratus Sarielle Starling, reveals a horrifying rumor: the Reaper Priest has collected fifty children for a blood sacrifice under the Aurora Comet to destroy the Obelisks.

Determined to save the children, Viri breaks Reeve out of prison. They flee to Mount Tembris, meeting reaper allies Sage, Jonas, and Ardin. Viri discovers that Reeve and his allies are fighting *against* other reapers to protect children.

During a fight to rescue a group of children, Reeve is gravely wounded with a poisoned blade. To heal him, someone with a deep emotional connection must administer the cure.

Viri steps forward, and to save his life, she reveals her darkest secret: the Reaper Priest is her brother, Braedan Solace.

After Reeve heals, they journey into the Mistwood to find an ancient map and talisman left by Viri’s parents. They survive attacks from a Wraith and a giant tentacled beast before being transported to Nevarnost Tower.

Inside the tower, they meet the Guardian, who can grant wishes. Viri and Reeve find Braedan there. Reeve prevents Braedan from making a wish, revealing Braedan is not the true mastermind. The real villain is the “Reaper Lord,” ruler of a hidden reaper city.

When Viri tries to make a wish, the Guardian reveals she already used one seven years ago—to forget. Her memories are restored, showing the truth: her own volatile magic accidentally killed her parents.

Reeve siphoned the excess magic to save her life.

The Reaper Lord then forced Braedan to become the “Reaper Priest” and siphon their dead parents to keep Viri safe. Overcome with guilt, Viri wished to forget, fabricating the belief that Braedan was the killer.

Viri and Braedan reconcile, but time is short. The Aurora Comet arrives tonight. Viri portals back to Aravell and finds the fifty children in a cathedral. She is captured.

As the Reaper Lord prepares to sacrifice one of the children under the comet, Viri’s friends and the city guard storm the cathedral.

During the chaotic battle, the Reaper Lord’s plan fails and he flees, but not before Viri is knocked unconscious by a magical attack.

Viri awakens trapped in a room inside Mount Mort, her magic suppressed. The Reaper Lord enters and reveals Viri will be sacrificed to the second comet, Orion.

The villain removes a glamour, revealing herself to be Magistratus Sarielle Starling, Viri’s guardian and Reeve’s mother. She delivers one final, shattering truth to Viri: Reeve is her son.
