When artistic director David Morgan announces La Courtesan, an original ballet about a courtesan torn between a penniless writer and a cruel prince, Allegra sees her shot. Auditions are six weeks away.
Her meeting with David goes badly.
He implies she lacks the sexual energy for the role, a jab rooted in the night months earlier when he propositioned her and she refused.
The message is clear: her no cost her the part.
That weekend, at her sister Bethany’s bachelorette party, Allegra watches Six Pact, a male revue in Hell’s Kitchen. Its star, Cord Donovan, commands the stage as a tap dancer and choreographer. Backstage, she asks him to teach her how to be sexy.
Cord agrees, on one condition: Allegra must choreograph and perform a duet with him at Six Pact. What he doesn’t explain at first is his history with ballet.
He and his twin sister Chloe were professional dancers until Cord punched a choreographer who had sexually harassed Chloe. Both were fired and blacklisted.
