Six years after nuclear war burns the surface, the last survivors live inside Haven, a massive underground bunker. The society is split into five sectors—Kitchens, Force, Hospital Ward, Sanitation, and Expansion—and every person carries a color-coded band tied to a health score.

Sasha Cadell, twenty-three, spent her first years in the Hospital Ward. Because her immune system resists radiation and disease, she sat with dying patients during graveyard shifts and earned the nickname Death’s Angel.

She later transfers to Expansion to escape the cruel rationing system and swings a pickax for six months. When three Sanitation workers attack her in a corridor, she stabs one and holds the others at gunpoint.

Instead of punishment, Force Commander Lyssa Burdon reassigns Sasha to Unit Seven as a combat medic. Commander Tristian Hayes and second-in-command Levi Williams then reveal that Haven has less than a year of food and medical supplies left.

The exploratory units must search the Abyss, the unmapped post-war surface, for hidden creator stockpiles. During the mission, Tristian orders the team to leave heavy protective suits behind so they can move faster through low-radiation terrain.

Sasha and Levi trigger a field of reset-capable traps. A second trap fires metal stakes into Levi’s shoulder, dislocating the joint and tearing deep wounds.

Sasha performs a walking blood bank transfusion from her own arm, drags Levi on a tarp for four miles, and later pops his shoulder back into place. To stop Burdon from discharging Levi, Sasha swaps her flawless medical chart and ID band with his.

Burdon sends Jaxon, a spy for rival commander Ikaika Kaleo, into Unit Seven. After Jaxon insults Sasha, Tristian beats him, and Sasha and Tristian later share an intimate encounter in the Exploratory Room.

A respiratory epidemic spreads through Haven. Before Dr. Hari Kumar dies, he gives Sasha a metal key and warns her to find the snake and protect the dead.

Sasha identifies Noah Henderson as the snake and learns that Burdon has been faking weather reports to block the search. Rumi Sato jams the exit doors and alters radiation data so Unit Seven can mutiny and escape into the Abyss.

Inside a hidden underground facility, Sasha uses Kumar’s key to unlock a vault with food, medicine, weapons, and preserved art. Cryogenic pods labeled TABITHA line the space, and one pod releases a living gray-eyed woman when Sasha’s key touches it.

Burdon ambushes the unit after tracking their suits. She reveals Sasha’s chart swap, strips Unit Seven’s privileges, and forces Tristian to serve as her second-in-command to protect his people.

In the epilogue, Sasha is exiled back to Expansion alongside Kaleo. She returns to pickax labor but now plans the next fight with the determination to live for her new family.
