Accomplice to the Villain Summary: Prophecy & Chaos
Introduction
Massacre Manor runs on office memos, cauldron brew, and a strict distance policy between its owner and his apprentice.
In Accomplice to the Villain, Hannah Nicole Maehrer returns to Evie Sage and Trystan Maverine as the realm’s magic drains away and an ancient storybook prophecy resurfaces in fragments.
King Benedict wants what the manor protects, someone inside the walls is quietly picking the building apart, and the two leads are keeping their distance for reasons neither will say aloud.
This third installment of the Assistant and the Villain series mixes workplace comedy with dark fairy-tale stakes, a stolen kingdom, and a romance neither character can outrun.

Accomplice to the Villain Summary: The Full Story (Spoilers Ahead)
Spoiler warning: the following section covers the plot in full, including the ending.
Act I: Sabotage and a King at the Gate
Two weeks after the Valiant Guard attack Massacre Manor, Evie Sage has been promoted to The Villain’s apprentice.
Trystan Maverine keeps his distance from her, believing his dark-gray death magic reacts uncontrollably near her and fearing a destiny monster’s prophecy that names Evie as his downfall.
Someone inside the manor is sabotaging the building, unbolting ceiling slabs and air vent covers directly above Evie and Trystan. Evie and Captain Keeley travel to the East End Slums chasing leads on the storybook prophecy, where tavern regulars try to capture Evie for King Benedict’s reward and she stabs one in the neck.
Back at the manor, Trystan’s death magic floods the main room, and Evie clears the panicked staff by claiming an office ghost is loose. The “ghost” turns out to be her mother, Nura Sage, who spent years dormant as a star in the sky.
Nura accidentally bakes with pink flour reserved for Lyssa Sage’s tea scones, and ten-year-old Lyssa reacts with intense grief and anger. King Benedict then arrives at the gates with a catapult and Valiant Guards, demanding Nura in exchange for the full text of Rennedawn’s prophecy.
Evie taunts Benedict from the parapet, revealing she executed Otto Warsen and detonating a pumpkin bomb near him. Benedict spots Nura behind Evie, and Nura’s trauma triggers her starlight magic, sending a destructive beam toward a manor window and directly at Lyssa. Keeley dives in front of the child and takes the full blast across her back.

Act II: The Window, the Prophecy, and the Frog Prince
Keeley survives with severe burns and is carried to the healer Tatianna by Evie’s brother, Gideon Sage. Trystan takes full blame for the incident, which pushes Evie further away.
A blond maintenance worker attacks Evie in the kitchen with a two-sided blade, and she fights him off with cauldron brew and her dagger. He identifies himself as Calvin Warsen, son of Otto Warsen, seeking revenge, and Trystan arrives in time to knock him unconscious.
Trystan admits his tattoo burns whenever Evie is in danger. In the dungeons, he and Evie interrogate Calvin with a knee-splitter device; Calvin refuses to name his insider contact but mentions tampering with the kitchen window.
That night, Trystan and Evie dismantle the kitchen’s stained-glass window in the courtyard. Over a picnic, Evie confesses her love and kisses him; Trystan kisses her back, his uncontrolled magic explodes across the courtyard, and he pulls away out of fear of ruining her.
The next morning, sunlight through the reassembled window reveals the full verse of the prophecy. It names four elements needed to restore the realm’s fading magic: starlight magic, the children of Fate, the unmasked Villain with a blackened good heart, and the heart of the true prince saving his fated love.
The group realizes the green frog wearing a mini gold crown is Prince Alexander Kingsley of the Southern Kingdom, cursed a decade earlier by the enchantress Belinda. Breaking the curse requires either Lionel the Curse Consultant or Belinda herself, who is imprisoned in the Southern Kingdom.
Act III: The Curse Consultant and the Balloon Estate
Trystan, Evie, Tatianna, Clare Maverine, and Kingsley travel to Lionel’s hidden cove, where they are ambushed by a giant bat and aggressive deer. Lionel agrees to evaluate the curse because Evie previously proved that someone genuinely cares whether The Villain lives or dies.
Lionel also reveals that Trystan’s death magic is heavily cursed and unbalanced, tampered with before it first awakened ten years earlier. King Benedict’s forces ambush the cove, and during the ride back Trystan voices his suspicion that Benedict cursed his magic.
At the manor, HR head Rebecka Erring finds the chef Edwin tied up in the pantry. Her brother Roland Fortis discovers a physical passage cut through the thorn barrier that an internal traitor has been using.
Gideon presents a map of the Gleaming Palace and the group splits into two plans: Gideon, Keeley, and the Malevolent Guards will infiltrate palace tunnels to rescue a pregnant female guvre, while Trystan, Evie, Tatianna, and Clare retrieve a rare magic wand from Lord Edmund Fowler.
Trystan’s group is ambushed en route by Fowler’s guards and sedated with tranquilizer darts. Clare and Tatianna wake in Fowler’s library, while Evie and Trystan wake aboard his flying hot-air balloon, and Fowler agrees to hand over the wand if they attend his themed dinner party.
Act IV: Costumes, a Pirate Ship, and the Glass Slippers
At the treehouse mansion, the group attends in costume. When Kingsley wanders off, Evie jumps onto a table and offers “a night with The Wicked Woman” as a prize to anyone who finds the frog.
A guest called The Destroyer finds Kingsley and tries to claim Evie, so Trystan beats him and throws him off the balcony. Fowler assigns Trystan and Evie to the estate’s lovers’ suite, where Evie sets a boundary: until Trystan chooses to defy destiny completely, nothing further happens between them.
Clare and Tatianna search Fowler’s hidden study, where magical yellow ink reveals hidden signature marks on notes sent to Lyssa. Kingsley knocks the wand loose from a mounted unicorn head, triggering a security mechanism that seals the walls in, and Clare melts a stone wall with orange ink into the lovers’ suite.
With the wand secured, Fowler reveals he broke it in two and had the glass base melted into a pair of glass slippers gifted to Trystan’s mother, Amara Maverine. They must retrieve the slippers to use the wand.
In Phoenix Village, a rare purple phoenix rampages because of the realm’s fading magic. Evie approaches and comforts it, and the phoenix heals a deep gash on her leg before flying away, after which the villagers present Trystan with a dandelion to make a wish.
The group then boards a pink ship captained by Tatianna’s father, Jellyfish Jones. Onboard, Trystan realizes it is Evie’s twenty-fourth birthday, orders the crew to sing to her, calls her “my accomplice,” and throws a disrespectful pirate overboard. That night he cooks vanilla cake and dances with her on deck.
At the manor, a memory plant found in Roland’s room fires starlight magic and knocks Blade unconscious. The caged male guvre breaks free and carries Lyssa and Rebecka into Hickory Forest, landing near a nest with two unhatched rainbow guvre eggs.
Rebecka contacts Trystan by amethyst gem to report the crisis and mentions Malevolent Guards sent on a mission. Trystan realizes he never issued that order, meaning the traitor forged his signature.
Act V: The Southern Kingdom and the Reversal
At the Southern Kingdom border, Trystan’s adoptive father Arthur Maverine helps the group sneak past the gates in a covered wagon. At Amara’s estate they meet Winnifred, a timid maid revealed to be the daughter of the enchantress Belinda.
Amara greets her children with cold malice and shows them a newspaper clipping calling Trystan an antihero for saving Phoenix Village. When Amara insults Trystan, Evie slaps her.
Amara reveals Clare had been secretly writing to her for months hoping for forgiveness, and agrees to hand over the glass slippers only if they bring Belinda to her. She sends Winnie along, since Winnie can wear the slippers and wield the wand.
After Amara claims Trystan is incapable of loving anyone, Trystan shouts to the room that he loves Evie and storms out into a rainstorm. Evie follows him to a barn, where he reaffirms his love and the two finally surrender to their feelings.
Winnie uses the slippers and wand to open the green barrier into Lily Pad Castle. In the throne room before King Gavin and Queen Brina, Kingsley’s magic has run out entirely, and he fails to write or respond, having faded into an ordinary frog.
Believing it a cruel prank, King Gavin orders Belinda’s immediate execution, and she is turned permanently to stone. Fluffy the dragon then crashes through the skylight carrying Blade, Rebecka, and Lyssa, and during the escape a Lily Pad Knight throws a blade at Evie that Arthur takes in the stomach.
Arthur dies in Trystan’s arms aboard Fluffy and reveals that he was not Trystan’s biological father, since Amara was already pregnant with Trystan when they married.
Returning to Massacre Manor, they find innocent office workers executed and strung from the ceiling. Gideon and Keeley capture the traitor: Marv, the front gate guard, coerced into spying by Gideon and Evie’s villainous father, Griffin Sage, who used the memory plant to siphon Nura’s starlight magic.
King Benedict then enters the manor, releases Kingsley, and unleashes dark magic through the memory plant. He reveals the prophecy’s final truth: Trystan is Benedict’s biological son and therefore the True Prince, and Evie was born with the continent’s dark death magic, which her parents and Benedict siphoned into Trystan at birth.
Benedict returns the dark death magic to Evie, and she is enveloped in black mist as it settles permanently into her soul. Evie realizes she is the True Villain of Rennedawn and Trystan is the True Prince, and Benedict escapes.
Trystan refuses to let her go, stating that breaking her sleeping-death curse and kissing her bound their souls together. He vows to find Kingsley, retrieve the guvre, and fulfill the prophecy with her, and Evie embraces her new identity with a grin.
In the epilogue, Clare weeps at the edge of Hickory Forest over her father’s death. A tall, naked man with long curly dark hair and golden eyes steps out of the trees, drops a note reading “It’s me” with a crookedly drawn T, and leaves a gold crown at her feet: Prince Alexander Kingsley, restored to human form.

Is Accomplice to the Villain Right for You?
This installment suits readers who followed the Assistant and the Villain series from the beginning, since the plot builds directly on the Valiant Guard attack and the prophecy fragments established earlier. The narrative alternates between office comedy inside Massacre Manor and quest sequences across the continent.
Readers who prefer episodic quest structures will find the middle acts split into distinct locations: a curse consultant’s cove, a floating treehouse estate, a pirate ship, and a walled kingdom. Those looking for a single continuous conflict should note that the story moves through several sub-missions before converging on the manor.
The romance advances slowly through the first half and becomes central from the dinner party onward. The book also contains on-page violence, including torture devices, executions, and severed limbs, alongside its comedic tone.
